First, always know the reason as to why you are making the language. Is it for fun? Do you want to use it in literature? Should others be able to speak it? etc. Then, figure out if it is completely original or based on something in real life. For example Trigedasleng ( The 100, go watch it its a great show) Is an evolved English conglang. Compare that to Dothraki, which was entirely original and has no basis in real life. After you have figured out those two things, play around with sounds and grammar that you like and have fun with it. I'd recommend watching some videos as well, David Peterson has some great ones and an amazing book on it. Also, look up some linguistic stuff you might need to explain how your language sounds so your basic IPA chart and Phonetic Chart (Same basic thing)

Sorta intense? Not so much because of things being different, but because the language barrier and Anti-Russian sentiment in the place where I moved was rather high. I spent an entire year in American Highschool effectively deaf, because the ESL programs only helped Spanish speakers, and I knew no useful English. It wasn't until I got a tutor that I was able to actually communicate in classes. Before then I just sat in class, listening to what was to me gibberish. I lived in the city of Volgograd, so the modernized city life and suburbs stuff was relatively similar, though I do miss being close to my uncles semi-primitive village, which was a shock when I saw that those only exist in like, Amish towns

uggggh. Yeah, America is weird wehn it comes to Russia. I used to have a Russian flag hung up on my room, and my dad - I am not kidding with you - Told me to take it down and replace it with a US flag, because the Russian flag is and I quote "the flag of an enemy state". I don't know how people can dehumanize an entire country and culture that much.

but on a brighter note, you told me you're into folk music from a lot of foreign cultures. What other kinds of folk music do you like?

Mongolian folk music takes up a large part of it, I love the throat singing and the instruments (Khusugtun is my favorite band if you care to know), I also like the medieval folk music of nations like England, Scarborough Faire being a personal favorite. I also listen to Arabian/Iranian/Persian/Etc. traditional music which I sorta clump together with "folk". And of course I listen to folk music of other Slavic countries besides Russia, Poland being a personal favorite.
