I do not understand... I don't like not understanding things... Zoidberg was a joke option and tied with Game of Thrones anyway, and ended up working, then Tupperware was a joke suggestion, but also ended up working out, so I lazily thought of Pumpkin Spice Lattes because I had read some ridiculous article on Facebook complaining about Millennials with some weird thing about lattes right before posting that, expecting it couldn't possibly win, and then it did anyway and somehow this is working out too. Something working that I didn't expect to is confusing me as much as when I expect something to work and it doesn't. Why are there so many good images to choose from that already exist for this combination. Can't process. It's great that the result is working, especially Pengu really made it work well, but it's so confusing because it seems like it shouldn't.

You prefer Pengu's Googled image over the custom ones Hydra and I made?

And mocking pumpkin spice lattes is a meme in and of itself

Sorry, did not intend to play favorites... I like yours as well. They're all good, which is part of what I found confusing.

Though I did get the idea from elsewhere, I was not aware it was meme-worthy and will have to look into that.

joke options work because the whole concept is meant to be a fun one anyway

as for mocking p spice lattes; it's part of the wider idea of mocking the basic bitch, who drinks PSLs and wears Ugg boots, 'omg loves' fall because of both of those things, and can't even because she wants to be odd and quirky
this is in contrast with mockery of the dudebro, which is largely centered on lifting, poor choice in hats, and wearing wifebeaters to predict his eventual arrest and conviction in 10 years

I think that's what she was getting at.  You and Hydra made yours, and I simply just found mine.  I think that was hard for her to fathom that skeletons + Pumpkin Spice Latte already exists.

Not sure whether to be sad that the actual ship didn't get the name (though David Attenborough definitely was a good choice) or glad that they picked an actual boat instead of a ship to name it that

I'm annoyed that they even pretended to care what the public thought, when clearly they didn't. I certainly cringed when I saw what the public wanted to name it, but it was kinda awesome in its own way, and I wish they'd named the ship that.

I've heard some people say that one of the main reasons they chose not to name the ship that was that there were worries that if there was a ship emergency, Coast Guard and the like might think it's a prank call and wouldn't take them seriously.

And besides, they still embraced the joke and gave the name Boaty McBoatface to a multi-million dollar robotic submarine, even making it their unofficial mascot (especially in educational outreach material). They could've easily disregarded the poll entirely, but instead they gave the name to an actual boat that's going to be out there doing good.

(They also get a bit of pass for naming it David Attenborough. Now all we need are some Morgan Freeman ships. )
