The Next Generation: Technology Thread

Because not having a technology thread would be very, very boring.  Or perhaps I'm overthinking things...

I'm more interested in hearing about the systems my character has to maintain and repair.

Well get to work thinking them up!  Probably the EPS conduits will need to be debugged, various environmental systems might need troubleshooting, the weapons systems may need slight upgrades, and the discretionary power systems will probably need major upgrades (e.g. cooking/recreation areas, etc.)

And the warp core (assuming we have one because that was a major development over the course of many months in the last RP) will probably also need some kicking.

Weapons systems are the main thing that were largely upgraded rather than hastily put together.  Several plasma cannon batteries, 4 forward-mounted railguns, 4 torpedo/missile tubes (3 forward, 1 back), and various missiles (nuclear, phase, etc)

He'd be able to upgrade them though, if he desired.  He also has a staff of security officers, and there is a second independent shipboard military detatchment—deemed necessary after the loss of the USS Wintreath

YES! RAILGUNS! Hell yeah! There's just no good replacement for a solid slug.

What's the status on robots and androids? Any human-like androids? If yes, are they tools, or crew members?

How about cyborgs? Is it possible, and if yes, common, for people to have notable tech enhancements for vital organs, physical strength/speed, or senses?

From my head canon, AI is already here, as we saw with Hendrik's wrist computer and Not-HK-47. NHK47 was mostly treated as a crew member. This was in the Original Series, though.

Offbrand HK-47 was an illegal AI, and an AI that got sentience on his own.

I'd say the status on AI is quite a controversial topic in Wintreath. While the technology is largely existent and is there, there are quite a bit of political hurdles to get through. I think the government would document about the creation of AI's, especially if they are commercial or personal. My character Aurelius kinda went around this and built Qwerty in secret, and didn't end up registering him as a semi-sentient AI in whatever ministry of AI or whatever exists as the institute regulating it.

I do not know if we have human-like androids, but I believe that since there has been no mention of such yet, they do not exist.

I'm not sure about what we should do on the topic of cyborgs.
