Civ V Multiplayer Recap
Gerrick: Germany
Wintermoot: Egypt
Gattoartico: Inca
Crushita: Ethiopia
We played on a Tiny Pangaea Plus map (we tried to play on a Duel size map, but it wouldn't let us
).
Crushita kept having Internet problems, so we made it about 65 turns before he decided to call it quits; and my laptop is so shit, I'd had to take like 5 minutes waiting to be able to give orders to units, so it was a pretty slow game.
During the time Crushita
did play, he quickly founded a religion (Rastafari in his capital of Jamaica), which gave him a pretty hefty boost. He also rushed a bunch of wonders, which helped as well. Around the time he quit, he was up about 200 points. His AI took over and continued his distant lead for quite some time, continuing to build wonders, founding a third city, becoming the host of the World Congress, and adopting the Freedom ideology.
Gattoartico remained on the other side of a huge mountain range from me where he settled two cities (Holy Terra, his capital, and Minas Tirith), so I didn't see much of his Inca until later in the game. Not long after Crushita quit, though, he decided he had enough as he had other real life things to tend to. His AI then took over and founded two more cities as well as Catholicism. His civilization began to lag behind, however, in terms of technology, military, and, thus, points.
Wintermoot remained illusive for pretty much the entire game for me. I never even ended up uncovering all of his land. He gained a few wonders, founded the third and final religion, the infamous Creeping Taint, and eventually adopted the Order ideology. After the others quit, his only goal seemed to be to have more points than Crushita, which he eventually did (I'm assuming) by spreading his religion, which ended up becoming the most predominant one. By 3pm ET he surpassed Crushita, becoming the victor, and called it quits, officially ending the game.
I, Germany, remained pretty much to myself for the majority of the game. At first, I lagged behind, but I slowly crept in first technologically, financially, and militarily. I became the first to adopt an ideology and chose Autocracy as my best means to a victory was domination (or at least quickly capturing cities for points). By the late 1800s, I had stockpiled enough gold to buy a large military of Artillery, Cavalry, Great War Infantry, Gatling Guns, Great War Bombers, and Frigates. By 1900 I turned my focus to the Inca, who were the closest (and weakest) civilization. By the time Wintermoot quit (turn 220), I had captured two cities and had my sights set on Holy Terra, but I still was in third place by 200 points. I decided to continue playing to see if I would have won had I captured all the Incan cities before Wintermoot quit, and, alas, I would have won. Capturing the final Incan city 6 turns later propelled me into first place. Better luck next time (though I definitely need to get a new PC before then).
So with that, our official victor is Wintermoot! Congrats!
