I like #3; historical ASOIAF is always nice.

Yeah I really like the First Blackfyre Rebellion. Lots of room to play and you still have plenty of intrigue and fighting going on.

I like The War of the Five Kings since many sides means more diplomacy and other chances for complexity. That and it means I get to join Renly, at least as long as he lasts depending on if his death is predetermined or not in your RP. Side A vs. Side B until one side loses is more dull to me, as much as I'd like to join Robert's Rebellion to help crush Rhaegar for blackmailing the Martells to reinforce him despite leaving his wife and already-born children to die with no care at all about them as he ran off with another woman... that's not how you treat your wife and her family and I want to pound that point in with Robert's warhammer myself, if I thought I could lift it. As if that TV only scene should change my opinion... yeah, I'm sure he made those vows to Elia too, look at how much that meant to him... destroy Rhaegar Targaryen and the Mad King, support Robert's Rebellion!

When it comes to major characters, I let the players decide where they want to go with things. It makes for up much better game and a lot more fun. I don't mind running either of the three, I guess we have:

I want to see if we can get more people and their votes for era before we decide where to go. I actually have notes for all three eras from other games I have run in the past so I can do any of them.

I agree with Aethelia in all regards except where Renly is concerned. Fuck Renly. He's a coward, narcissist, manipulator, and shitty brother.
Stannis 'the Mannis' Baratheon is where it's at, particularly since the show is retarded and he would never elect to burn his daughter, they did it purely because they eliminated Edric Storm from the show and by god I will believe that until Winds of Winter properly comes out and I have to read his betrayal of his fundamental principles with my own two eyes. Until then, B&B are deceitful, character-assassinating liars.
That's sort of implicitly articulated where I would be in said scenario. Unless the option arose for me to be Dickon Manwoody, usurping my father and brother to become Lord of Kingsgrave. Because real talk: who doesn't want to be Dickon Manwoody?

okay actually in hindsight i would also like to point out that i marginally disagree about the Rhaegar part, I think he would have continued to be married to Elia if it wasn't for the fact that polygamy is prohibited in the Seven Kingdoms - the prophecy requires the dragon to have three heads and if she'd had another kid she would probably have died, since bearing both Rhaenys and Aegon nearly killed her, and so the only way to have a trueborn Targaryen third child was to have his marriage annulled so that she wouldn't die in childbirth
still overall dickish of him, but he's not quite so bad as you make out, since it's not like he expected King's Landing to be sacked - he obviously expected to win at the Trident, or he wouldn't have gone out there in the first place, and had that happened his ex-wife (although officially it's not like anyone knew except the High Septon) and children would be perfectly safe since the rebellion would have been crushed

Renly just didn't seem Kingly to me in the books. He liked to play and never really had a good idea on what he wanted to do as a King. Also I agree with Stannis, he loved his daughter more than anything. There is a lot in the show I like, but a lot I don't. I understand having to condense somethings but there are parts they should have stuck with.

Rhaegar is an interesting case. I still don't know where I sit with him. I do feel like if he had won at the Trident he would have disposed his father. There was no way Aenys could remain on the throne. As for him and Ella, with the Targaryens it wasn't. So he could have married Lyanna, just he would most likely have been seen "In the wrong" by many. It was a fickle edge in my opinion.

So can I put your vote for either the Wot5Ks and the Robert's Rebellion? ;p

Frankly I'm down for any of them (although the Conquest remains my favorite time period in the CK2 mod), but yeah in aggregate I'd prefer the Wot5K.

At least until I realized the writers were Mary Sue'ing him to make Stannis look villainous, which I was trying not to think about even though that got a lot harder when the writers just stopped trying and were like "Let's have Stannis sacrifice Shireen to make everybody hate him", so blatant, didn't like it, don't want to think about it, while book Renly was always "me me me" to begin with. I'd like to take that part back then.

Yeah Show and Book characters can be very different from each other. That could be corrected in game! Looks like we leaning towards Wot5K. Which is fine with me, as I have a lot of experience with that and a good idea where to lead it as a GM. 

Alright so looks like the best idea here is to go with the War of the Five Kings. Going off that here are who can be claimed (This this can be expanded on). Plan on starting just after Eddard Stark has been taken into custody.

Will this be following book canon, show canon, or some mix of both (and if that's the case, how)?

I go off book canon, it is far more rich and also you aren't missing important characters. I enjoy the show, but for games I find the book so much better.
