Technically, you can still be pirates with my proposed technology period. They'll just be more technologically advanced.

There was no romance in the first place.

Of course, this applies to basically any sailor of the era (pirates might even be better off), but life still sucked on pirate ships.

I'm well aware of the realities. Their lives were terrible, but they still had brutal ship battles and they still had to get up close and personal to finish the job.

Does nobody want to use wit and cunning to destroy enemies from afar anymore these days?

As I've said, we already have so many of those.

But to be sure, naval battles with cannons and mortars still require quite a few tactics and strategy.

I find myself supporting Laurentus on this one.

Let's go out of our comfort zones and try something really different, I say.

I'll give only if we can achieve repeating rifles, six shooters, hand cranked gatling guns, and ironclads.

Why?

Because I like those things.

Why don't you like 18th century tech? Either way, war will be hell. Why not go out of our comfort zones every once in a while?
