I thought it might be handy for us to share how, exactly, some of us are able to capture such amazing screen shots, videos etc.

So feel free to share any nifty tricks you have here.

@Seroim or @Pengu, how do you guys capture screen shots? I know Steam has a handy in-game option, with the default button being F12, but the game I'm currently reviewing, Undertale, just isn't able to use it for some odd reason.

I tested the feature with The Witcher 2 to make sure it wasn't simply a problem with Steam, and encountered no errors.

Assuming you're using Windows, pressing the "Print Screen" key will copy a screenshot to your clipboard. You can then paste it into an image editing program (eg: Paint) to save it as an image file. Most Linux Distros and Mac OS behave similarly.

There's also this tip:

You shuold go to "add a game" than "add a non steam game". When a window with a list of your programs pops up go to "browse" and search for the Undertale.exe file in your undertale folder and add it. (mostly: program files/ steam/ steamapps/ common/ Undertale)

When you start it, your save file will work and taking screenshots too.
Only thing is, that your gameplay doesn't count. So don't expect any trading cards

I don't think I'm going to add Undertale as a non-Steam game due to the fear of messing it up in unexpected ways, but I just tested that method with Dragon Age: Inquisition (an Origin game), and it worked perfectly.

I literally just use F12. Have yet to come across a game the Steam overlay screws up on.

I'm getting a new computer for my birthday so I hope I'll be able to get better screens. I suck at composition and the like, and I've never had much interest for photography or art in general, so I'm afraid I'll always be below par.

Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR3-2400
ASUS GeForce 1060 GTX ROG Strix 6GB (bit overpriced but sadly I didn't have the money for a 1070 so I chose the best GPU I could get with my budget)
2TB HDD + 250GB SSD (I've gone with Samsung...expensive but my Kingston shit in my hands 2 years in, never buying Kingston or cheap SSDs again)

The 1060 is a beast, if certain benchmarks are anything to go by. It's way more powerful than the 970, which I'm using.

The nice thing about PC gaming is that you can just upgrade a certain part that's lacking at a later stage. I've honestly spent far less money gaming with my PC than I ever did with my PS3. Sure, the parts are expensive, but I save so much money on the games that it's completely worth it.

Of course, I'm not aiming for the 4K resolution and so forth. I still don't quite understand why everyone's blowing so much money (on monitors and GPUs able to scrape the barrel of settings at those resolutions), when 1080p is sufficient.

I've also yet to take the plunge and buy a SSD. Are there tangible performance gains when using one while gaming?

I don't get that 4K stuff either. 1080p is more than good enough for me. My old computer is getting a bit rickety though (I've still got a 760) and I do like to play on the highest settings I can. Plus...I've started playing WoW again and I'm having lots of stutter not related to latency bad news in raids.

I could have just replaced a few parts (my CPU is still good enough for instance) but my mom wants my present computer so I couldn't cannibalize it for parts. Had to buy the whole shebang. Cost me a pretty penny due to the weak Canadian dollar but it's worth IMO.

As for the SSD, it makes loading anything much faster. Back when my SSD actually worked my computer would boot in less than 30 seconds, BIOS to desktop. It was amazing. For gaming I don't know whether it changes much, but I'm willing to bet everything loads faster too.

I'm mainly investing in a 4K because it does look a bit nicer than 1080p, and because they're starting to go down in price.  They're starting to hit the $400 mark, which is exceptionally cheap nowadays for a 4K TV considering they used to dent the $800 mark (some brands still do depending on the size of the TV).

I'm doing it the layaway way though, so rather than blowing a whole bunch of money at once, I'm paying it as I'm able and getting it later.  I'm doing the same thing with a new laptop I'm getting.  I actually prefer that method with higher priced items.

If that bothers you too much, just use an image editing software to crop it (if you don't have any third-party software [I personally use Paint.NET, among others], MS Paint should do).
