  • I am looking into possibly bringing on new people to lead the Keepers of the Call (Recruitment) and Mentor Guilds. Both of these guilds have existed for some time, but either never got off the ground or never rose to their full potential...in the case of the keepers, this is because I have found that I do not have the time to both lead the region and manage a guild, and I accept full responsibility there. But at least it clears the way for someone that may make something out of it, eh?

If you're interested in one of the positions, please post here along with your thoughts on how these guilds can be lead to success and any ideas you may have to improve the guild system in general. In addition to your answers, I will be looking your general activity over the past few months, and having actually been involved in recruitment or mentoring would be a bonus as well.

I look forward to seeing who steps...forward. :)

  • I'll open the discussion with something wacky, if anything I hope it encourages everyone else to speak out as well, no matter how unorthodox ideas they have, they'll probably fall short of my thought. :P

We could separate the job of guildmaster into two: appoint a "janitor" to take care of the subforum on request, and let the guild choose their own leader. I'm mainly thinking about Keepers of the Call, as mentoring side is foreign to me.

Janitor is there to remove the need to give the guildmaster any forum privileges. Finding janitors should be easier than finding good and willing guildmasters.

Recruiting is recruiting, it's hard to make it any more appealing, and with the kind of recruiting numbers some people are able to pull, the current contest can seem intimidating rather than motivating. Allowing the guild to run itself could lead to richer inner politics and structure.

Main issue with appointed guildmasters is that, as we have seen, if they fall inactive it may take quite some time for anything to be done about it. In my free model the guild could establish their rules and then quickly pass ranks around as times change.

Wintreath loves RP, so a successful guild needs more RP. (Isn't the RP Guild basically our only thriving guild? Should prove the point.) So why not make recruiting a profession, throw in the Houses (houses could take more pride in each of their member's achievements, and recognition is a fine currency) and bring new level of unity to the region. This side avenue would unfortunately require co-operation from outside of the guild.

It might also be worth it to consider combining the two guilds. Bringing people in and taking care of them afterwards at least sounds connected, doesn't it?

  • I agree with the idea that the two guilds should be merged. Its the process of taking care of new members. People can feel daunted when they come here. I know i did the first time. Couldn't find ANYTHING! Luckily I found the IRC chat and some of the other members were able to give me links and help me navigate. I still have problems getting around some times. I think giving the Guilds a certain amount of autonomy is important. Allowing the Guild to lift up and "revere" (For lack of a more considerable word) there Guild Master. Therefore creating unity in the Guild and giving people a reason to become more enthusiastic about there guild and there chosen profession. There should also be a process to found NEW guilds. Something that shows the Ministry and the Monarchy support and endorse this collective of professionals. I suggested in an earlier post, that the guilds should be reformed into job specific professions. After further assessment, I found that this was already the case (my apologies about my ignorance). Leave the people of the Guild to elect there Guildmaster. And use a janitor to keep the forum clean. I like that Idea. May I suggest that the Guildmaster be elected and the Janitor appointed. Therefore it can be more political. The guilds themselves can put forward legislation to the government for consideration. That will create a vastly more in depth experience for the guilds. Anyway, this was entirely more the I was anticipating saying when I started writing this so Im going to stop rambling now.

  • But in a way that's like saying let's combine forum games and roleplays because they're both cultural things that happen on the forums. They may be vaguely related, but do they share the same challenges really? It's very difficult even to find people to recruit, because it's so tedious and time-consuming...but on the other hand, we've never had an issue finding mentors, but I'm not sure if we offered consistent quality in all members' mentoring. I honestly think that if those challenges are being tackled correctly, that it's too much work for one guild to take on. They are both under the umbrella of the Ministry of Integration, though...in much the same way you would expect forum games and roleplays to be under the umbrella of the Ministry of Culture. :P

Unrelated, what did you have trouble finding? I would say the forums are probably better organized then they have been in the past, especially the non-government areas.

I'm relying on very simple logic, two half-dead guilds combined will be just enough for one full, alive guild. :D

Drastic perhaps, but guilds need members and I think we're more short of them than potential leaders. Is spreading them thin really worth it?

  • The mentoring guild inherently has less to do than the recruitment guild, though. So in a way, I can see the sense in combining them. It would just get weird when mentors are all suddenly expected to recruit, and recruiters are all suddenly expected to mentor.

That's not how I intended it. Members of the combined guild would of course be free to choose what they want to do. The merge would however create easy opportunities for giving the other thing a try.

Recruiter is already sometimes the first person helping a potential new member take their first steps in(to) the region, so the threshold to mentoring may be surprisingly low.

Such megaguild would also be well equipped to take care of the citizenship applications and citizen registry, as both mentors and recruiters are in the front lines. Interaction with the RMB is another task that wouldn't be too far from either mentoring or recruiting, but not quite part of either task right now.

If nothing else, an Integrator sounds a lot better job title than just a mentor or just a recruiter. :D
