  • Great Wintrean Mammoth

These mammoths are the largest in Wintreath, the biggest males sometimes reaching seven metres tall. They live in the crags between the different mountains of the Huggtanders, and are fiercely territorial, killing anybody within a one-mile radius. After excessive hunting for meat during hardships and wars, they are all but extinct.

  • Wintrean Cricket

The Wintrean Cricket is a small insect (Around 1-3 cm long) that lives to the south of Wintreath, in the swamps and skirting the edges of the desert. Its venom is deadly poisonous, and if you see one, it is highly recommended that you steer clear.

  • Inguenp

The inguenp are native to the northernmost reaches of Wintreath. They are four to six feet tall, and often hunt seals and rabbits. Their closest relatives are the terrapnids. They often hide between ice floes, and attack passing trade caravans.

  • Terrapnid

The terrapnid is a twelve to sixteen foot beast, and uses its large beak to kill sharks and, in many cases, people. The terrapnid lives most commonly along the coast of the huggtanders (in Wintreath), and are also common in the Far North. Many towns and cities such as Hercke have experienced 'pest' issues from these birds, as they often race to local farms to kill oxen, and tear out large chunks of flesh from their corpses.

  • Snow Wolves:
Snow wolves appear to simply be especially large wolves, until you get close.  They can speak any tongue, understand any language.  They have a similar intelligence level to a human, and live in packs.  Some choose to follow humans, elves, Draconians, and all manner of intelligent beings.  On rare occasions, an entire pack will choose to follow a single individual.  They are kind, benevolent, and understanding, but, harm one of them, and they nearly go rabid.  There have been unconfirmed reports of people seeing Snow wolves turning into humanoids, but those are only from those who have spent way too much time alone.  So it doesn't really happen, right?

  • The Winter Eagle

A bird found commonly found around Wintreath, this ain't no Spring Chicken from Springlade, no Summer Seagull from Summeria, and no Fall Falcon from Fallatia.  This is a majestic bird known as a Winter Eagle, a loving play on what sounds like "Wint. Regal" when said quickly, which actually accurately describes this bird.

The Winter Eagle's feathers are covered in an unmeltable snowy glaze, giving them a nice glimmer from a distance as well as leaving them cold to the touch.  They are easy to approach as they are normally not skiddish, and in fact are companions to many people within Wintreath (and are a main source for sending letters since they are both reliable and have a unique sense that can easily track the letter's recipient).  While their talons are sharp, they have a unique way of curling them when perched on one's shoulders where their companion would never have to worry about them stabbing into their arm or scratching them.  However, when hunting prey, the Winter Eagle will use their sharp talons to catch their prey as if they were naught but a marshmallow on a stick before eating them.

Their diet normally consists of fish as well as smaller wildlife such as squirrels.

  • I present to you 4 new insects for Wintreath.  Spoiler alert: Two of these insects are jerks.

    Frostfly

    The Frostfly

The Frostfly is a type of butterfly that can be found in some of the colder parts of Wintreath.   Because of its pure snow white coloring, it's been argued that this beautiful insect is actually made of pure snow.  However, because nobody has come to an agreement on what the black contrast of its wings would be in that case, it's still a subject up for debate since nobody has managed to catch one of these creatures.

The Frostflies can be found around the daytime, normally flying around and visiting the various patches of winter roses and snow tulips...their favorite type of spot.  During the night time, they like to travel as a group to the nearby snowy trees, where they rest along it behind the snowy leaves and branches.

    Beeterfly

    The Beeterfly

As the name suggests, the beeterfly is a cross between a bee and a butterfly.  It has the wings and almost entire body shape of a butterfly including the antennas, but also most notably has a stinger much like a bee...as well as the small mouths with sharp teeth much like a wasp.  As one may expect, you can normally find beeterflies around the various types of flowers around Wintreath, making the non-frozen/snowy ones their choice of area.

Beeterflies are very territorial and travel in groups.  If anyone other than a Beeterfly approaches their area, they will give a very distinct warning buzzing sound along with quick flaps of their wings to warn the imposing intruder to leave.  If their warnings go ignored, they will attack as a group, stinging and biting the intruder with their small but sharp fang-like teeth until the intruder inevitably runs off.

    Betterfly

    Betterfly
Legends say that if one were to find a nest of these creatures, one would be guaranteed to live a very long and healthy life filled with true love, riches, and the most exceptional life until their last breath.

Whoever started that legend was a jerk.

Betterflies are some of the most appealing looking of the butterflies, but also the most mischievous...and among their victims they're more known the "Loki" of butterflies.  Don't let their prismatic colors fool you, as that's part of their ruse...and there's nothing a Betterfly enjoys more than getting you enthralled by its magical looking colors.

On the contrary, Betterflies are notoriously known for leading the victims of their pranks to areas that are teeming with danger.  Suddenly find yourself in a grove surrounded by an angry swarming Beeterflies? Did you somehow wake from their magical lull to find yourself in the middle of a den of sleeping snow tigers? Then you probably found yourself caught up in a prank of the Betterfly.  There's nothing they enjoy more than luring you to a field of dangerous wildlife and then brazenly flying off, as their name suggests.

So do yourself a favor: if you see what looks to be a glint of prismatic colors nearby, you "better fly" away.

    Snowbee

As the name suggests, these are bees that can be found in the more snowy areas of Wintreath, widely considered to actually be made of pure snow themselves.  Though as one has never been caught (though many have been stung by it's icy sharp stinger), it's never been actually proven.

Making nests of snowy hives up in the corner of trees as well as other cold corners, Snowbees tend to find themselves helping Frostflies with pollinating the more unique cold flowers of Wintreath, their favorites being winter roses, frost daisies, crystal irises, as well as their favorite...the large prismatic cystal-petal flowers known as the Winter Gems.

In their hives, they are known for making a unique type of delicious ice-blue liquid that's come to be known as Frost Honey.  It has a sweet flavor with a slight chill to it, and is used in many types of drinks including the Wintreath Delicacy known as the Winter Hammer Mach II.

Snowbees are much less wary of people than, say, Beeterflies.  However, they will defend themselves if they sense that they're in danger, such as being swatted at...or especially if one were to try to take the honey from their hives.

Like regular bees, there are the many worker-drone Snowbees that pollinate the flowers and do most of the work while the Queen Snowbee gives birth to new Snowbees.

  • The Iranik Viper

The Iranik Viper (pronounced "Ironic") is a common snake found in Wintreath, normally in areas near the water.  They're an azure blue snake with what look like bubbles all around them, making them look slightly amusing to those who notice.  The Iranik Viper is a harmless snake that will only attack in self defense when it feels cornered.  Unlike its cousin, the Ikarin Viper, its bite is harmless and will feel like a slight pinch, and it will usually rub against you afterward as if apologizing for hurting you.  They're also known for being both playful and mischievous, and make great pets.  However, most people refrain from capturing one, worrying that they may be instead potentially be going after its cousin.

    The Ikarin Viper

The Ikarin Viper (pronounced eye-cah-rehn) is an uncommon azure blue snake found in Wintreath that is often mistaken for its cousin, the Iranik Viper.  Unlike its cousin, however, the Ikarin Viper is an exceptionally dangerous and deadly creature.  One bite from the Ikarin Viper will spell a slow, cold death to its victim with little hope for an antidote.  Its venom works its way through the victim's bloodstream, freezing their insides before eventually making its way to the outside.  The last place it hits is the victim's heart, finally killing them if they haven't already died from the extreme cold.  Much like its cousin, the Ikarin Viper can be very mischievous, and has even often been mistaken as its cousin after emerging from the water with similar bubbles around its body (the Ikarin Viper has no such bubbles normally, which is the only distinguishing factor between the two).

In the NS region sense, no.  What exists is generally up to the nations themselves.

In the World of Wintreath sense, as in Wintreath as an actual continent with towns and whatnot, yes.  When the world of Wintreath is used in roleplay, this is basically a guide of what exists in that world.

What you're going to see here and in much of this subforum are going to be loosely connected to the semi-official Wintreath RP setting as established by Weissreich (map here), which sees Wintreath as a monarchy in a gearpunk fantasy setting with noble houses and whatnot.
