  • So now that I have a newer-ish laptop, I need some game recommendations.  Keep in mind that if it's a multiplatform game, I either already have it or are probably not interested.  I need some good PC exclusive games, preferably RPGs...though I enjoy all types.  I already have Diablo 2, plan on getting Warcraft 3, have Sims 3, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, Atlantica Online, Creataverse (I believe it's called), Path of Exile, and one more (I can't recall the name at the moment).

Oh, and I do have Steam.

  • The Long Dark is a nice survival game set in Canadian wilderness, so it's great for 101 survival in rural Wintreath as well. :D It may be low on NPC's to interact with, but sometimes it's good to spend a little time all by yourself.

(Stranded Deep is similar game set in tropical islands instead, with weaker gameplay in my opinion. And for your needs for enemies and co-op play I'll name the cartoonish Don't Starve (Together).)

For a smooth transition from first-person starvation to city buiding I recommend Banished, a punishing city builder where you are tasked with the survival of a group of travelers. Set in history and in a beautiful world with stunning seasons.

Moving on from beating hunger, the Cities: Skylines is probably as good as current city builders get. (Also, it's Finnish! Torilla tavataan!)

Last but not the least, Starbound slaps space travel to Terraria, expanding the familiar format across the galaxy. It's apparently coming to consoles sometime in the future, but for now it's a pc exclusive. Same goes for The Long Dark.

  • What are your machine's specs?

I was hoping someone would ask:

It's an AMD A8-6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 graphics, 2.00 GHs, 8.00 GB RAM, and it's a 64-bit system that runs Windows 10.

So far it's played my installed games quite well (Sims 3, Createaverse, etc...)...compared to my last computer which could barely play Warcraft 3, and even struggled with Sims 2.

  • Well, it has a decent amount of RAM, and the quad-core CPU opens up quite a few doors, even if it's design doesn't necessarily give it the same performance as it's Intel competitors. My main worry is its GPU, the make-or-break part of a gaming machine. I'm not sure which GPU exactly you have, but this one doesn't look promising for current games. You should be fine for more casual games, and you already have a PS4 for at least the most popular AAA games.

  • Although it's graphically low-tech, I'd recommend The Universal. Actually from the screenshots I've seen it appears to have been updated significantly so there's that. It's been around since like 2004 but back when I played I couldn't tear myself away. I'm not sure how it's player base is these days, but I figure it's worth a shot. You can travel through space to other player's worlds or even build your own world. It's pretty versatile too. I've seen some interesting stuff back when I played. One time I got stuck on some players world where you're literally sent back to the stone age and have to progress through the ages until you become technologically advanced enough to build a spaceship and leave. It was actually pretty fun. As far as I can tell the game is still up and running. I might even try it again myself.

  • I'd also heartily recommend Pillars of Eternity, an old-school RPG that's pretty damn great.

  • Oh wait, I was mixing it up with Path of Exile for some reason.  I don't have Pillars of Eternity, yet.  But it's definitely on my list.

  • So to add to my list:

Sims 4 runs pretty well on it on its full settings, and Skyrim runs pretty well at both Medium and High...but I recall it being slightly choppy on Ultra.

So that should give an idea of the types of games that can be played since they're two different graphic styles.

  • Hmm, I'm hesitant to mention The Witcher 3. That thing destroys pretty powerful desktops.

There's also a chance you have it on PS4.

  • Get the enhanced edition of 2, if it's available. The controls are less clunky than the original, and you can play with a controller.
