Here are some excellent ones.

A classic one would be the Hermann grid illusion.

Hint: Try to spot the black dots.

Oh, yes, that's a good one. There only appear to be black dots at the crossings you aren't directly looking at.

I've been thinking we could probably do with some sort of award for the best avatar someone uses based on our Avatar of the Month theme. I've seen some incredible things various people have used as Avatars over the months I've been here.

Truthfully. I've always loved the ideas people come up with for each month, so along with the Avatar of the Month, we should have Best Avatar of the Month poll at the same time, based on the best avatars from last time.

If we do that, I think a "Rate the Avatar above you" thread could be beneficial.  That way people who want an idea of how their avatar translates could get a decent idea.

This could extend to signatures as well.

I feel like that kind of idea seems like a one-or-the-other one. If we rate each others' avatars before voting, the vote will be all but a formality to what is already a group consensus of whose is best.

Does anyone know why the avatar thingy refuses to show some images? I spent maybe fifteen minutes trying to find a mirror of my current avatar that would display properly. (It seems to be largely related to image size, but it also appears that the correlation isn't direct.)

That's strange ... all of the images I used would resize themselves accordingly.

Uploaded ones for me never resize themselves, whereas ones grabbed via URL always do.
