I promised this thread around the holidays, so here it is:

You're asleep in your bed:  Do you wake up? Do you enjoy the dream? What's happening in the dream? In this game, you control the events that occur, and you control the outcome.  Will all of you make it out alive? Will only one? Will events that even bring the possibility of death even happen?

In this game, each player will get the chance to make a choice on their path in the story.  Do you take the path to the left because another player chose the right?  Do you choose to give the ghost a candle after seeing the other player refuse and get killed?

It's time, ladies and gentlemen, time to choose your fashion your own story...time to control your outcome...time to choose your own adventure.

Official Rules:
1) At the beginning, everyone will be given a starting chapter and players will choose where they wish to go.  Players will be shuffled randomly with the order posted, and the game will play out like so: On each player's turn they'll be presented with a short chapter detailing where they're at or summarizing what happened in their last decision, and will be presented with either choices, or an "END OF ADVENTURE."

2) If a player is given a chapter ending with "END OF ADVENTURE," they're out of the game.

3) The players that reach the end of their stories, or the final surviving player will win the game.

4) This game has 4--that's right, 4-- different stories that players can choose to go into:  Fantasy, Modern Day or Western, Horror, and Science Fiction.  There is no set requirement for the amount of players per story, but it's encouraged that players spread out a bit. 

Prepare yourselves ladies and gentlemen....signups will begin on January 2nd to give people a chance to recover from New Years.  Please use this thread to ask questions that you may have, or offer suggestions. 

To give an example of a typical player turn:

After much running, you manage to escape from the murderous old crone's gaze.  You begin to wonder if you should have stolen her priceless golden candle in the first place, but your curiosity is quickly extinguished as it lights itself in against the oncoming darkness of the halls.  You stop for a moment to catch your breath as you look around the area.  "Are you lost?" a voice calls out as you hesitate slowly, and turn around to come face to face with a painting that seems to be talking to you.  "I can give you directions to get out of here and back in the real world if you'd like." The painting says to you.  Behind you is an open door that also seems to beckon to you...

Laurentus, what do you do?

Do you:
A) Listen to the Painting
B) Go through the open door
C) Continue through the hallway

And to give an idea of an END OF ADVENTURE chapter:

You decide to listen to the painting as it tells you the directions to leave the creepy manor.  Taking a right at the end of the hall, you walk through the door that it described to you as you find yourself in a seemingly empty room.  The door slams shut behind you as you attempt to leave and the candle extinguishes itself as you feel something crawl on you in the darkness.  The feeling multiplies as multiple things begin to crawl on you and engulf you, going into your screaming mouth and other areas of your body, giving you a slow and exceptionally painful death.

END OF ADVENTURE

So basically you're going to be running four basic versions of this...that a lone is a lot of work, and I admire that you're planning on taking something so vast on.

Out of curiosity, are you getting the stories from somewhere, or are you writing them?

CYOT has to be vast to be interesting.  Unlike Werewolf, it can't survive on a single scenario for multiple players, so having 4 different choices makes it a bit easier.  And I don't mind writing up 4 different scenarios.  It's actually slightly less tricky than you think compared to writing up 50k twists and turns for a singular one. 

And these would be written by me. 

It's still a massive amount of work...as a fan of choose your own adventure, I know what goes into making one. You're making a big time-commitment here, but it sounds fun and I'd be interested in being part of it.

I think of it as a good way to push myself back into writing.  And I figure I owe as much since I've done a bit of slacking in my department.  I have to make a comeback in more than just pushing the Lusty Jarl.    And I've been promising this game for quite a while.

I don't envy you.

But if it turns out really good perhaps you could write it up as an actual book and submit it to something like Choice of Games or something...they actually pay authors for good CYOA stories.

I am a huge fan of Choice of Games.

I've posted the news to our Facebook and Steam groups as well as the RMB.

I'm in for it, but when is this starting?

Signups will commence on Saturday, January 2nd, and will most likely end on Friday the 8th, since I only work one of my jobs that day.  I'll either post them right at midnight PST, or after I get home from work on Saturday.  I'm shooting for the former.

I'll also add that there'll be a bit more to these sign ups than just saying you want in.  To make the story-characters a bit more personal to each person playing, the signups will be a little more in depth...sort of like a miniature character bio.
