Greetings Wintreathians, this is your neighborhood friendly Pengu here.

First off, you're probably wondering "What the hell is "The Lusty Jarl?!"  Well, I'm happy to be introducing this little deal for the the Cultural side that would replace the "Coming Soon to Wintreath" topic in the news department for Culture.

But that's not all!  Where Wintreath's Orendi is essentially like a Newspaper, The Lusty Jarl is like the Wall Street Journal or other type of magazine.  Rather than submitting big region articles that the Orendi or Frozen Record covers (politics, new region-wide events/changes, interviews, etc...), the Lusty Jarl would take a different approach.

People could submit poetry, short stories, drawings, or other artistic creations.  News would mainly involve updates and upcoming events happening in Culture, such as the introduction of a new game, statistics from a game that just closed, and whatnot.  We would also have articles such as advice articles, or more open pieces that befit a magazine (recipes for foods, movie/game/book reviews, etc...).  We'd also have holiday themed newsletters with appropriately themed contests, reviews, and .  Finally, we'd have little contests for the Magazine as well, such as scavenger hunts, crosswords, and the like.  Interviews for the Wintreath's Finest could also be placed here as well.

Also, unlike the Orendi, this wouldn't have to be put together in a specific time frame.  Cultural news updates would still get their own topics in the forum (with them occasionally being placed in the main magazine if they coincide with a release time), ongoing articles such as the Advice articles could also be placed in the general area (the best answers being pulled into future articles/magazines if permission was given) and people could submit their articles whenever they wanted.  Those interested would be granted access to the submission forum, and depending on the volume of articles, it could be a monthly, bi weekly, or even weekly occurrence.

Those would be the general basics.  Any questions?  Does this sound like something you'd be interested in?  Are there any suggestions to make this better?  I'd love to get as much input as possible on this.

This sounds fun! If it takes off, I'll probably submit some stuff.

Would information/blurbs for new/open roleplays be appropriate for the magazine? If so, I'll probably add some of those in too.

Also, yeah, this sounds rad.

For the people who say they would like more info if that's the reason they chose that option, what is it you that you would like more info/clarification on? 

And yes, this would be a completely Cultural centric magazine, so those would be appropriate.  Blurbs for new games, contests, roleplays, and the like would all be welcome in this magazine, @Bodobol

Essentially it's like the Orendi in structure, but different in the way it carries itself.  It's more a magazine with fun articles as well as articles strictly related to culture or anything culture wise that members submit.  But without the member submissions, that's essentially what it'd look like.

I'm quite happy with it. It definitely takes on a lighter tone yet still pertains to relevant regional events. And the user submissions will definitely add a community aspect to it. It's definitely less serious than the Frozen Realm Record; speaking of which, I should probably get on that...

I'd love to contribute to such a publication. My schedule is much more open since Voice of the People, with which I'm the editor of, probably will no longer be the regional publication, which means in all likelihood I'll be out of a job there.

I'd like, if nobody minds, to put such a publication together myself, much like I'd done for the most recent edition of Voice of the People, which as an example you can view here. Until now I'd been using Lucidpress since it was free, but as it so happens I have had the good fortune of getting my hands on a copy of Adobe InDesign, which means I'll be able to bypass the 3-page limit Lucidpress imposes on non-paying users as well as access to more templates and far greater storage (I'd be able to utilize my 500gb external hard-drive.) If you like the design for the example I provided, that is the tip of the iceberg. Now I'm just an amateur with regards to graphic design, but I believe myself quite capable. However if anyone with better graphic design skills than myself were to also contribute, we could make this would-be publication fantastic! Sure it'd be put out in PDF format, but I feel that allows for much more creativity than the restrictions the mainstream NS publications abide by, mainly the use of only BBcode. Thoughts?

Awesome! I'll give it another day or so for others to come on and say how they feel about this, but it sounds like the vast majority are in support of this idea.

For those of you who are in favor and are interested in writing articles, please send me a PM and we can all get together and brainstorm ideas for our first publication.
