The Allied States of Lernaea

History

For most of the early ages, the Lernaean people were confined by the island now containing Lerna. Once they developed ships, they expanded east, encountering other civilizations. Eventually, they became allies, forming the Allied States of Lernaea.

Once they formed a nation, they didn't feel the need to expand, only to advance. Scientifically, they prospered. Exploring, they encountered many nations, eventually joining in on the Wintreath Union.

Government

The government of The Allied States of Lernaea is led by a chancellor, who is elected once every six years. The Bureau of Armoire advises the chancellor, and the Senate, containing representatives from each state, to vote on nationwide policies. The Bureau of Armoire consists of 15 members, each with their own specialty, combining their powers to create an effective cabinet. The Senate consists of 2 to 3 representatives from each state, combining to best represent all the states as a whole.

Lernaea's military consists of 146,620 active personnel and 182,000 reserve personnel. It is split into the Army, Navy, and Air Force, with the Navy having a sub-branch of Marines.

Scientific Empire of Alcubierre

Geography

Alcubierre is consists largely of an archipelago located close to the Wintrean political center. The islands are rather low-lying, and most mountains are not very tall. Alcubierre is well-known for its temperate rainforests, in which giant conifers reach out into the rainy sky. However, being located rather south, Alcubierre is also home to dry deserts and tundra. In addition, Alcubierre has a small territory on the main continent, which is slightly hillier. Many of these environments are protected by the imperial government. Alcubierrian scientists have attempted to develop supersoldiers out of the native penguins, but so far have not succeeded, in part due to its protection as the national animal.

History

For a long time, Alcubierre existed as several ever-changing coalitions of the indigenous peoples of the islands, and occasionally small parts of the mainland. War was heavily ritualized, as Alcubierrians preferred to resolve disputes through negotiations, and killing a fellow Alcubierrian was considered a terrible sin unless absolutely necessary.

However, the culture of the islands changed when they came into contact with other civilizations. Alcubierre was quickly and (mostly) peacefully united under Emperor Miguel I Alcubierre, ushering in a new age of technological growth. Unfortunately, the imperial family was later wiped out by terrorists, ending the Alcubierre Dynasty. Instead of continuing this line of succession, the Senate chose to create an eternal regency, establishing the elected First Consul as regent.

Government

The Alcubierrian government is a parliamentary technocracy. The unicameral legislature, the Imperial Senate, consists of Senators representing their particular field and elected by others working in the same field. The First Consul is elected by the Senate. He/she appoints other consuls of the various ministries, is commander-in-chief, and also holds the title Regent of Alcubierre.

Military

Alcubierre is heavily pacifist, a holdover from its peaceful past. Its primary military, the Imperial Defense Forces, consists of 126,000 active personnel and 28,000 reserve personnel. It is split into the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Plans by the Ministry of Science to create a Penguin Corps have been dismissed due to infeasibility.

The Liberal Monarchy of Clifta

History

Geography

Government

King Barnes is the official head of state of the Liberal Monarchy, although he often responds to the votes of the National Assembly, a unicameral parliament electing members from 365 constituencies. The National Assembly runs itself on a two-party system, with the parties acting as coalitions for the two main ideological factions in Clifta. The Progress Party (PP) models itself after a centre-left viewpoint stemming from social progressivism, as opposed to the Nationalist Party (NP), which maintains a centre-right platform based on nationalism and libertarian economics.

During every four-year session, the National Assembly elects a Speaker who acts as the head of the government and chief diplomat for Cliftan affairs. Each party also elects a leader; the leader of the majority party and the Speaker are usually one and the same. Wintrean Union delegate Björn Wolf was actually former Speaker of the Assembly, though we wasn't the leader of his party (NP), and resigned his seat after a falling-out with party leaders over his environmentalist record and increasingly-leftist viewpoints.

The relationship between the King and the National Assembly has strained over the past several years after increasing legislative corruption has led the King to increase his executive stronghold and limit the Assembly's power. Resultingly, public sentiment for legislators has become hostile, leaving many, including Mr. Wolf, timid.

Military

Clifta prides itself on its military, which is heavily connected with the government. The Cliftan military, some one million strong, consists of four divisions: the Cliftan Army, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force. Though not typically active in combat, trained military citizens are responsible for other work within the country's borders. For example, the Army (160,000 personnel) provides much of the domestic police work within Clifta's various metropolitan areas. The Navy (234,000) conducts aquatic military tests, protects Clifta's many maritime borders, and protects Clifta's allies internationally. Meanwhile, the Air Force (377,000) and Space Force (254,000) perform airline operations and a joint spaceflight program, respectively. A vast majority of scientific research is conducted through the military as well, with the bulk of the Air Force and Space Force budgets allotted towards scientific progress, and noticeable amounts of money also attributed to the other research divisions within the armed forces.

Economy

Businesses in Clifta are heavily subsidized by citizen tax dollars, and money poured into the private sector returns in the form of lower negotiated prices. However, the government subsidies exert significant restrictions upon the businesses receiving them, so industries that don't comply with regulations often become bought out and nationalized. These restrictions have nevertheless been loosened as of recent, with the amount of government subsidy remaining roughly the same.

Clifta, with its beautiful landscapes, heavily promotes tourism and hospitality as its main sectors of economic output. Other major industries include retail and sustainable logging.

The Wintreath Union

The Wintreath Union is an assembly of all the nations in Wintreath. It is split between the International Security Council and the International Unity Council. The International Security Council is in charge of maintaining peace and prosperity for Wintreath and seeks to ensure co-operation between nations. The International Unity Council exists to allow all nations to voice concerns and grievances between each other. All nations get a seat in both Councils, the delegates are the same. They meet in the same Chamber and are basically the same thing, they just exist to separate conflict grievances and other grievances. This is the first session of the Wintreath Union and hopes are high for the organization.

The person in charge of the Union are the Speaker Of The Nations. The Speaker of Nations is in charge of the speaking order of nations and is in charge of maintaining order in the Union. The current Acting Speaker of Nations is Mr Edward McAllen. All staff of the Wintreath Union abandon their national allegiances are get special passports.

Acting Speaker Of The Nations Edward McAllen

Edward McAllen was a politician in the Confederate Senate of North Gralend and became a diplomat for them some time later. He became Speaker of the Nations through deft maneuvering and by becoming a driving force for the Wintreath Union, getting several hesitant nations, including North and Southern Gralend, involved in the Union. He's charming, diplomatic and wants to do good... so he says. There are rumors of how...ruthless he is in the Confederate Council. Either way, now he is Speaker of the Nations.

Maybe the name should be more Scandinavian lol
