Next in the line was Laura. She was perfectly aware that her present physical condition was incapable of doing the judo roll, but after watching two of her male classmates performing decently accompanied by the risk of extra classes, she was most certainly not going to sit out on this. As she prepared herself, she mouthed "Doll Mimicry" and immediately felt the liberation of the human body. With her bodily constraints lifted, she managed to do the roll before returning back to her normal self.

Neels recognised the use of magic in the weightlessness and grace with which Laura executed her roll, and while he admired her ingenuity, he realised he would need to take a firmer hand. He also realised that he never specifically stated that the students weren't allowed to use magic, so he corrected that.

"I applaud your ingenuity, Laura. However, there are people in this world who can nullify your magic, and that is why it essential for this subject to teach mundane forms of self defence too. Please come speak to me in private after this class has ended."

Velvet was next. As she watched the others, she paused a moment to consider her actions. She could pretend she was stupid and actually roll on the ground, or do what the teacher-whose-name-was-forgotten meant. But she didn't want to seem like a complete idiot on her first day, did she? After taking a deep breath, she completed her roll. Though at this point one would notice Velvet's small stature if they hadn't before- she was shorter than most. Could prove to be a major roadblock ahead.

Neels could sense something was bothering Velvet, but contrary to popular belief, couldn't read people's mind. He could sense she was dissatisfied with some aspect of herself by her emotion, but he couldn't imagine why.

"Velvet, that was a good roll. Please come see me after class as well."

Talia went next. She had some basic idea of how a roll was performed. Her uncle had taught her in case she fell while hunting, and she executed it a couple times, but she wasn't perfect. She completed it with only a minor error.

Fizban decided to stop watching the students and went back to his classroom. He made sure the door was hidden as a wall and prepared what the students will learn.

Karlien went next, and made a small mistake. She would need some practice, but she thought she would get it right fairly quickly in the days to come.

Mads wished to go last, but the other kid yet to go obviously felt the same. He decided to step up and go next. He completed his roll, but his clumsiness showed as it wasn't done correctly yet he somehow came out standing.

Well that was weird, Mads thought, surprised that he didn't end up on his face.

Neels grinned internally at the emotion Mads was experiencing.

Judo? I don't think I've ever been in a fight before... Elliot hadn't intended to go last but his thoughts preoccupied him so. Nevertheless he tried anyway. His first attempt landed more like a sideways somersault; the second was successful, although Elliot nearly fell, but he recovered himself carefully to complete the roll.

"And with that, the class ends. Elliot, with enough practice, anyone can do it. I urge you to attend extra classes after school in the gymnasium. That said, that was far from the worst attempts I've seen.

"Now. Class dismissed. With the exception of Velvet and Laura, you may continue to your next class. I may come to observe you there, as the other teachers did here."

He waited as the other children went on their way, and addressed the two students before him in succession, starting with Velvet.

"Velvet, that roll was no worse than any number of students' first attempts. Judo is a form of self-defence that anyone can excel at. I could sense from your emotional state that something about yourself bothered you prior to and following the roll, but I couldn't tell what. You need not worry about your height, if that was indeed what worried you." He would give her time to respond, but he needed to talk to Laura too. He therefore said: "Think on that while I speak to Laura."

To Laura, he said: "I could not gain an idea of what your roll would have been like, and the existence of magic that can nullify our own, makes it essential for us to work on our physical state. In an examination, the use of magic in a portion where it isn't allowed, would immediately disqualify you from completing said examination, and consequently, you'd fail my class. Elliot tried his roll without the use of magic, and while nothing close to perfect, at least he has gained an idea of how much work he'll have to do. It would be beneficial for you to attend extra lessons after school, too. The fact that they take place away from the rest of the class helps quite a bit."

He looked at both of the students before him, and waited for a reply.

"That was actually kind of fun," Elliot said to himself, not caring if anyone was listening. "It's not what I expected when I enrolled in a magic school, but I'll go to the after-school exercises. Whatever it takes!"

Putting on a sheepish smile, Laura replied with a tinge of sincerity, "Instructor Neels, I do humbly apologize for the use of magic in a supposedly non-magical component of your lesson. Please be assured that I will prevent such a scenario from occurring twice to the best of my abilities. Regarding extra sessions after school, I am inclined as a student not to refuse such an offer from a teacher, regardless of whether I believe I will benefit from doing so. With all due respect, may I point out that Power Negation has become such a rarity in the magical community, that the probability of an individual being born with it is approximated at 1 in 100,000. Nonetheless, I shall be there at the gymnasium after school. Thank you for your concern, and have a nice day."

With that, she bowed and excused herself, heading straight for her next class.

Velvet narrowed her eyes. Did he read her mind or something? She was somewhat uncomfortable with her height- it caused some minor yet very annoying issues for her. Even her grandmother knew not to bring it up. Well, at least I didn't fail...I think. After Laura finished, she watched her run off before looking back at...Nelly or something? And she wondered exactly what teachers had been watching. Maybe they actually had modern technology such as cameras? Despite her inward thoughts and feelings, she pasted a smile on her face and said in forced cheerfulness,"No need to worry about me, sir. I'll be fine. But thanks anyway!"

With that, she turned and fled after her classmates, as if the devil were chasing her.

Karlien arrived in front of Fizban's door, and suspected something was very wrong.

"Um. Can someone who's used to the magical world please tell me whether it's normal practice to have a teacher's door sealed shut by a brick wall? If not, is this some sort of test?"
