Biography: Mads Skovgaard grew up in a family of dysfunction. He was the third unplanned, unwanted child born to unloving, lower class parents. His two older brothers were twins and bullied him, taking out their anger on him as their parents took it out on them. As soon as they were old enough, they left their family behind and moved away without telling anyone where they were going. At age 14, Mads then became the target of his parents’ frustration and ire (besides each other). Though Mads was a bright student, he took no interest in school because he felt his classes were too easy and his parents didn’t care, so he often slept or daydreamed of being somewhere else.
On his fifteenth birthday, Mads was locked in his room as usual. It was a really nice day out, so he just stared out his window at the woods behind his house, wishing he could be out there – out of his prison. He quickly fell asleep and woke up. He stood up and looked down to see himself still sleeping, but he thought he was dreaming, so he didn’t think much of it. He walked over to his door and tried to turn the doorknob, but his hand passed right through it. He then passed his hand then his head through the door, realizing he could walk through walls. He saw his parents watching TV without arguing for once, so he thought it must definitely be a dream. He walked up and yelled in their faces, but they didn’t react at all, so they must not have been able to seen him. He then quickly ran through the front door to go outside and into the woods where he laid in the grass and fell asleep. He woke back up in his room feeling physically tired, which was strange since he was just sleeping. He then got up, picked the lock on his door (which he had come to master), and opened the door to see his parents still on the couch, just as they were in his dream. This same ghost-like dream happened several more times the next few days until he finally realized it wasn’t a dream; he actually was able to move out of his body, become invisible, and walk through walls.
This completely changed the way he saw the world. In class, where before he just slept, now he slept then projected his non-corporeal self to explore the school, though he couldn’t make it too far outside the school because he would wake up. He even snuck into other people’s houses after school just to explore and see how other people lived, though it didn’t last long. To improve upon this new power to travel further and longer in his projected state, he tried to research it. He didn’t find much, but he did learn something about a school just for people who could perform magical feats such as his, so he immediately asked his parents if he could go there. Happy to get rid of him, they quickly enrolled him to attend Maelstrom Academy without even knowing what it was.
Likes: Exploring (especially where he’s not allowed), learning (if it’s challenging), being outside, lock picking
Dislikes: Having to stay in a room for a long period, family, monotonous schoolwork
Note: He just does the projection where he becomes non-corporeal, not the decoy projection like I said before.
