Sometimes I head over to reddit.com/r/GenderCritical and read for hours. It's deeply hurtful, but it has an inoculating effect.. it helps me keep perspective when I experience these arguments and attitudes in real life.

It's liberating when I find that the worst they can offer me is words... For them, they are getting their happiness from hate and ignorance, while I get mine from the love of my family, friends and most importantly myself. I realize that my sources have more benefits than theirs, and now instead of feeling hurt, I feel kinda sorry for the haters of the world...

Stuff changes when people start literally hurting you of course.. I'm glad to live in a time where I don't expect to be discriminated against and hurt just because of my gender or clothes. Such a time is seeming like it needs to be increasingly savored, I am less sure that it will last with each passing day..

Has anyone played Diplomacy before? Apparently, it has a long history of mail/email play, and as such would probably be well-suited to a forum game...

Shall we get working on setting up a game? More games and more variety of games are always good.


@Justinian Ezkantion , my wife and I are thinking about spending New Year's in Louisville. Is there anything you'd suggest we do or stay away from?

Aww shit, I know this is a little late but mostly just stay away from the west end and you should be fine. As a history buff I recommend the Frazier History Museum if you're into that sort of thing. Oh, and grab a bottle of Bourbon while you're there. It's what we're known for.

Really late comment but Frontier Style bourbon smells and tastes like paint thinner. As well as not being very strong.

I sometimes do the same thing - explore websites, Twitter trends, or subreddits of groups or ideologies that I know I hate. It's interesting to see how they spin national news and just to see the logic behind their arguments. Although some of the stuff on there I see is troubling because of the hierarchical, reactionary attitudes found therein, I'm sure is a much more emotional process for you, Evelyn.

I believe deliberately exposing yourself to alternate viewpoints is the trademark of wisdom..

It's the only antidote for insularization and radicalization.. and the amount of both going on in the world is quite frankly terrifying..

It seems like everybody is drawing battle lines, and they don't even know what they are drawing. Is there anyone in the region that lived in a country right before a civil war broke out? What were the signs? When was there no turning back?

At my college, I met this girl last quarter in my mathematics section, and I sort-of liked her, partially romantically, but mostly just as a friend, and then now, second quarter, without the class the friendship is sort of fizzling.  Now, what I hoped to do was to meet up over lunch or something and discuss school and life and such, but she took it as more of a romantic request and politely informed me that she was currently in a relationship.  Now, I admit that I do sort-of like her as well, but my intentions in having a lunch at the cafeteria were certainly not of the "romantic" sort.  But I'm struggling to come up with a way to explain this to her...

I'm not sure what you mean by electoral reform...we experimented with a mock election using the alternative vote once, and I think some ideas for changing voting came up during the Storting reform mess.
