Don't worry about it. I made the joke myself...it just made me feel like some kind of creep that people want to avoid for some reason, that's all. =/

I don't think we've 'made questionable decisions' in our gameplay endeavors at all...throughout the last three years we've consistently supported and defended our treaty allies, consistently participated in liberations, and consistently worked with other defenders, usually under very trying circumstances. Our military isn't a large part of the region, and I don't think it should be, but I'm proud with what we've done and the way we've done it. I don't think we've ever compromised our sovereignty or our integrity, even when doing so didn't exactly make us any friends.

That being said, the reason I'm started that topic was to gauge what people thought of the Nazi matter in general...we do not necessarily have to join an interregional organization, we could take action unilaterally through our military policy or our laws. I apologize if people got the idea that the whole thing was about joining an interregional org.

And that's exactly my point. These people consistently expect us to bend to their petty bullshit. We consistently decline and get more and more shit hurled at us for causes that are absolutely meaningless, considering this is a game. And in the grand scheme of things, we make no difference, whatsoever. The same shit people are doing now is the shit they've always done, and will continue to do.

Why can we not break the cycle? Pride is not sufficient reason.

They do so because they don't understand.

To some extent they're basing their opinions of us on misinformation coming out of Spiritus. It's only been recently that I've been made aware just how pervasive their caricature of this region is, from the reasons why it was founded to what we're about to the reasons behind our defense of people like Gov when he was a Citizen. To some extent I blame myself as Monarch and Jarl of FA, because I haven't done enough to combat this slander and promote who we really are as a region. At some point, I made the decision to move on from that drama believing that they would as well...obviously, I was wrong. The same sort of character assassinations that led me to leave Spiritus to begin with never ended, and only extended to this region...and it's still going on, even three years later.

Otherwise, we've done the best we can with a bad hand...having to defend Gov and support his right to interact with regions that don't want to be involved with him, rightly or wrongly, was never going to play out well no matter what alignment we were in. I'm not saying that our 'partners' are in the right at all, but I think if they knew what we were really about they would be more understanding of why we do some of the things we do. For what it's worth, I think most people who venture here end up with a very good impression of the region.

But things being as they are, what do you propose we do?

I appreciate you saying that...you know, I try to be open because that's the sort of community I've always wanted. I know I'm rather eccentric though, and sometimes I do feel a bit vulnerable.

Haters gonna hate. I say we simply stop our military endeavours, or when we do engage in them, do it completely independently. And then ramp up our presence in all other parts of NS to begin showing people that there has been so much misinformation, or break away from NS entirely. Why should we care what anyone thinks?

Of course, that question could be asked if we still participate in R/D too, but it's a lot harder to deal with when it's constantly in our faces.

Or we could become Imperialists and just take over half of NationStates in revenge.

That's honestly pretty much what's happening anyways. The update force has decayed to the point that it's just myself and Chanku, and to be perfectly honest I don't think either of us has the interest or availability to revive it. If anything it's led at least the military players to care less about the region...it's rare that we get a request to participate in much of anything these days.

Even if we were to become imperialists as you jest, we would need to build a more active military and begin working with independent and imperialist regions...perhaps with raids of Nazi regions to start out with.

To answer your question, we should care to some extent because some of our greatest members have come from other regions...including some people from some region called Aura Hyperia. I'm not saying that we should let other people's opinions of us sway how we do things or influence our sovereignty, and I don't think we ever have, but I don't think we should be callous about it either...to do so would be to our detriment.

You don't have to work with anyone if you take over a GCR. You become a law unto yourself at that point. And you don't have to take over a GCR through external force, meaning you won't require partnerships with other organisations. Be always at the fore. Suffer no rivals/allies.

Are you seriously suggesting we take over a GCR?

I'm really curious. How is Wintreath portrayed in other defender regions?

I see no reason not to do it if it's something we actually can do. But it is mostly a joke.
