In chess, there is never any room for mechanical thinking. The game of chess I play and study is completely different from the one the first masters played a hundred years ago or more, and even as I write this, some grandmaster somewhere is advancing our collective understanding of the game by looking deeper, thinking farther and working harder at some aspect than anyone else is.

Yeah, but in MtG we have cards!

Well, you seem to really like chess. I stand by my position that it's nothing special.. =p

Even though I know I will never be as good as Magnus Carlsen is, chess can best be described as an obsession of mine.

EDIT: Chess is simply one of those things that I'm always shocked to discover isn't appreciated by everyone as much as by me.

I know that's completely unreasonable, but it is what it is.

My dad still expects things to be done, and even though he's been assisting me with things, he still acts rude and condescending to me, and refuses to apologise.  He thinks it's ok to pester me and be rude and condescending to me, but call him out on his actions, he's in complete denial >_<

and no one seems to care :-/

I like chess symbolism and stuffs, one example I can think of off the bat is Black Butler, chess being mentioned a lot.

It's always a great literary device, especially if people understand it.

My quest for understanding in chess can probably best be described as Plato's yearning to see the true objects, not simply the shadows of those objects on the walls of the caves, except that I'm nowhere near as equipped to see the true nature of chess. I merely fumble in the dark, hoping to gain a glimpse of it one day.

It's great to be passionate about something.. =) I used to be pretty passionate about Starcraft, but I have a hard time finding the energy any more.

It's good to be the king.

Lol, I've only written truly spectacular pieces when I've written about chess.

And I'm still a huge StarCraft fan, I just haven't played it in forever.

EDIT: I suppose it is kind of depressing that I can only muster that type of enthusiasm and love for chess, and not something else. And I can only write well about something I care about.
