  • I wound up being forced to try on contacts today by my parents, and that ended with me sobbing because of a mixture of stress/hatred of contacts/and my eyes being irritated to hell and back.
I'm a very emotional potato you see.

  • Some people just aren't meant for contacts. I have regular glasses, and I'm quite happy with it. I just can't keep my eyes open to try out contacts.

  • Oh I can agree with that. I'd hate contacts because glasses are kind of my signature look. There's only one decent photo of me without my glasses :P
    Aren't contacts more expensive anyway?

  • Aww...why'd they make you wear contacts?

My eyes are too sensitive for contacts...I'd never be able to wear them, so I've always wore glasses. I think most people look better in glasses though. :P

  • I wear night contacts. They can get painful at times, to the point where I just give up and don't wear them that night (which negatively affects my vision, of course).

That said, not having to wear contacts or glasses in the daytime is pretty convenient.

  • My mom wants me to be more mature, and that to her is wearing contacts, though she seems to fail to understand that due to my allergies to pollen, dust, etc etc that my eyes are very sensitive to that kind of stuff and it doesn't feel good to take out the contacts.
I couldn't even take them out on my own since it was hurting pretty badly at that point, so I had the lady take them out for me since it just wasn't working out.

  • That's silly that anyone would think contacts make someone look mature...I personally think glasses make most people like distinguished and intelligent. ^-^

I hope after that experience you don't have to go through any others with contacts in the near future...

  • Contacts are hard to get right.
I've gotten pretty good at it or my eyes have gotten more resistant to them over time. When I first got them for about 2 months my eyes were dry and irritated. I tried a different brand (Oasys) and it helped a little bit, but I left them in for too long or something and got a nasty eye infection. Tried them again years later and as long as I do everything correctly, I can wear them for like 8-10 hours without getting irritated, which is normal for that kind.

My rules are.. Always put in your contacts BEFORE your makeup. It can be done with makeup on but like you have to be extra careful. Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and then with water to get the soap off, and dry on a clean lint free towel. Then place the contact on your finger.. inspect it thoroughly for dust and specks of stuff and cleanse both sides with eye drop solution. You'll have to invert it to clean both sides. Minimize contact between the surface of the contact and your fingers. Minimize the contact between your fingers and anything but the contacts.

There's really no hope for putting them in pleasantly.. you just gotta pull down your lid and stick it on. If it feels bad immediately like something sharp is in your eye, take it out and clean it again. Once it's in, put more eye drops in your eye to lubricate the lens. Close your eye and move it around a little with your finger to get the air out and get it centered. Should be good to go.

Then.. take them out every single night, if that's what kind of contacts you use, and change the water in the case and wash your hands thoroughly and dry them with a lint free towel. Have the case already open so you don't have to touch it.. in fact have everything ready to not be touched until it's time to put the lids back on the cases. Take the contacts out via a gently pinching motion. Put them in the case. At this point you're blind, so really make sure the contact is in the solution lol.

Never put the contacts in anything but contact solution and always keep it covered. I think some people really can't wear contacts because of dry eyes or whatever, but if you really want to wear them I think most people can get used to it.

I put them in because everyone says I look prettier without glasses on. Most days I can't be bothered though. I have pretty serious allergies to most things, but the contact itself i hypoallergenic.. it's the stuff that's on them that gets you in trouble

  • My mom will most likely force me to wear them anyways, despite that she knows I hate putting things in my eyes since it just bugs me for some reason. It's not really fair, but if she wants to spend on this money on sterling grey contacts for me and then I only wear them once in a blue moon, be my guest.

  • I would never force my kids to wear contacts.. =/
Nobody really thinks twice when they see someone with glasses on, she should really stop forcing her presuppositions on you. Parents are good at ignoring that particular piece of advice though.

But, there are things I really really did not want to do as a kid but would be happier now if I had done. For example, I really wish I had gone to a dermatologist about my acne rather than try to wait it out, like my mom wanted.

  • Yeah, I get what you mean, maybe when I'm older I'll be able to put contacts in or something, but I don't want/need them right now.

  • They're just a pain to put in and out.
And I've seen my mom get infections from her contacts, and I know that doesn't happen often and that it won't if you throw them out when you need to and keep them clean, but I don't wanna risk that either due to having enough eye issues already, lol.

  • Nobody will think you are more mature if you put in contacts, that's a fact.. =p

Wintermoot is definitely right about that, glasses make you look older not younger.

  • Idk why my mom thinks glasses make you look more mature, people don't even know you have them in unless you tell them, so how does it make you look more mature? o.o
