Jesus... Are you relatively okay now? And do you have a history of seizures?

  • I guess that's where the F part of my ENFJ/INFJ comes in.  When someone comes up to me telling me that they had a bad day, or need a shoulder to cry on, or just need someone to talk to, I always make myself available, and I'll share their feelings with them.  When someone is crying their eyes out because of something that happened and they come talk to me, I'll usually cry with them and give them a hug.

I'm like the Bob Saget at my work because I'll give out hugs to my coworkers every time one of them is having a bad day (or I'll offer it at least), and I give hugs to my coworker-friends occasionally when I see them or say bye to them.

I would hate working with you. I hate being touched :(

  • God I wish I get this internship at the Translation Office of Parliament where I have an interview next week.

It helps that I'm the only fucker with a law degree applying for an internship in legal translation but my grades are middling (tending towards bad recently) thanks to recurring bouts of autism-wrought depression that leave me unable to function for months on end.

How do I make them understand that I'm actually one smart motherfucker? Should I just tell them, doctor's note with me?

  • I feel you. I myself under-perform in certain tests and exams when my bipolar slips into depression, and I'm also studying law. I don't know what advice I could give you, however. Being honest about your illness helps, but the trick is not making it sound like an excuse.

You also have the advantage of being the only one with a law degree, so perhaps even with poorer grades, the sheer scope of your knowledge could be enough to make them consider you a finer candidate.

In any case, I wish you luck.

Don't worry.  I only hug the people I know are comfortable with it.  I happily leave the ones who don't enjoy their personal space being invaded...although I'll sometimes fuck with them about it. :P

It's always fun when you come from a theatre background to where personal space is pretty much a myth, and you work with people to where it's more of a gospel.  :P

Yeah, I don't want it to sound like a cop out, which is a tall order, you're right. I've been running scenarios in my head and I can't figure out a way to make it sound good.

I'm banking on my degree, French to English experience (which is rarer than you'd think given that translators should translate into their mother tongue exclusively) and extremely autonomous personality to see me through the door, but I can't help but be a bit apprehensive. Everything is so competitive nowadays that I'm scared that one blemish will be one too many.

Thanks for the wishes though. My interview is Thursday if you want to send more good vibes my way.

  • At some point in the future, scientists are going to learn the exact mechanics of how the human brain works. They're going to figure out what happens to make people do this or that, which will open a Pandora's box of potential disasters that I don't have much faith in humanity to successfully navigate.

I have lots of faith in technology...I just have little faith in the powers that be who control it. :P

  • Even simulating the human mind is a long way off, because we know very little about it, truth be told. I can't give anything close to an estimate of how far off mind control is of the human mind, but I doubt we'll see it anytime soon.

Even then, it requires an actual part inserted into our nerves to act as a type of decoder, so there would probably be war if some sort of civilisation-wide mind control scheme were to materialise.

Probably 20-30 years...not really all that far off when you think about it. I mean, we've been around 20-30 years. :P

It'll probably start in the military and the prison system...in many ways basic training is geared to break down one's personality and rebuild it and associated habits in a way that's beneficial to military life, so this would do the same things quicker and (eventually) cheaper. Plus the many additional benefits such as suppressing soldier's fear instinct during combat and perhaps even memory erasure as a PTSD cure. For prisons...well, there'd be no easier way to monitor them and thwart an escape plan before it even starts. In those situations the person receiving it probably won't have much choice in the matter.

That's only a first step though.
