On the subject of shots, what's actually the most popular one in America?

Tequila and Jägermeister have always competed for dominance here. Though Jägermeister has definitely gained the lead at my university.

Tequila is probably the most popular in my experience, but whiskey takes a close second.

My Sith Assassin, Xu'Felnee, is probably the nicest sith you'll ever meet, she doesn't murder people, or torture them. She negotiates whenever she can, and helps people. She's basically an Imperial Jedi.

I apparently have gone without sleep for at least 48 hours now.  Meh.

A cold cider is really enough for me.

Realistically, the only purpose of alcohol is to get drunk, so I'd rather drink as low an amount as possible while still getting the desired effects than swallow more garbage than is needed.

Or better yet, just smoke weed.

That's how I felt at age 20, but at 31 I appreciate a good beer or cider a lot more than hard liquor.  And after many a hungover Sunday, the novelty of being heavily drunk has definitely worn off...

I agree. Getting drunk is fun, but sometimes I just want to enjoy a beer or cider. IPA's are excellent for drinking casually, but terrible to drink to get drunk.

Can't say I will ever enjoy drinking alcohol for its own sake. It tastes like shit. I don't understand people that sip hipster beers and gush about the taste (don't understand the same thing about wine either). It's alcohol, all of it tastes like shit, it's like eating turds and talking about their head and lacing.

If I drink alcohol, it's to get drunk. I don't get knockout drunk ever since the day I blacked out after drinking 3/4 of a 26oz of tequila and woke up next to my own vomit, but it is solely for the purpose of attaining a certain level of drunkenness. Not for the taste, not for the pleasure.

And the point of alcohol, for me, is to make socialisation at a place where there are a lot of new people easier, as I'm inherently stiff around strangers, and two beers or ciders have me casually chatting away and dancing in no time.

An "acquired taste" is not something you learn to appreciate, you just get used to the taste being so bad and it doesn't seem that bad anymore.

I'm sure that on some level, poo is an acquired taste too, but I'm not gonna stuff my face in it until it starts tasting like pootine.

Usually alcohol makes me even more abrasive than I am sober, so it doesn't quite work as a social lubricant for me.

Well, true, but a cider does serve its purpose in my case, and fortunately does work as a social lubricant for me.

But I was recently at a braai (something similar to a barbecue, but not quite the same), and found out that certain guests had brought non-alcoholic beer. I just immediately blurted out: "Why not drink milkshake?"

I saw the word lubricant and was attracted to this topic.
