I thought I was gonna throw up from the nerves before I started the presentation today, but when I started it, all that went away and the directors went away very damn happy with the tool and the presentation in general. Mission accomplished! Now excuse me while I have a heart attack.

Its a good thing that I don't use a smartphone.  I looked at a page full of emojis and couldn't identify many of them.  I did it because the professor had us try to create a sentence using only emojis as a comparison to Egyptian hieroglyphs.  Trying to come up with the message was so difficult for me because I had no idea what kind of emojis there were.  Many emojis that looked the same had different meanings which made it all the more confusing.  Maybe I should spend some time looking at Facebook's and Discord's emoji catalogs. 

I've used the basic emoticons for years, but I'm pretty clueless about the emojis myself...if I'm in a situation where I need to use something that isn't basic, I have to look at the list on Discord. In casual conversation though, I've never had a need to use anything but basic emoticons though...I don't really understand why people use them so much.

I'm honestly. Ot a huge fan of emojis myself. It just seems unnecessary.

I mean, I'm an avid hunter and I'm well past feeling bad for anything I kill to eat, but this was slightly horrifying.

I'm more bothered by the wasted resources than I am the horrendous cruelty to livestock. :-/

Yeah, part of the hunting ethos is that if you take its life, you'd better eat literally every edible part of it. Seeing how it can get wasted like this, despite the horrible suffering these animals go through, really makes me rethink my support of the industry.

I only ever use potatoe, tomatoe, and bread, lol. And I disable the emoticon -> emoji conversion since I prefer that aesthetic.

To me the emoticons and the emojis represent different feelings. But I'm a big fan of emojis, and use them quite a bit in texts and Discord.

They indeed do, which is why I avoid the auto-conversion since the emoji may not have the effect which I intended.

One thing I find interesting is how those two are sometimes at odds (unless you go fully vegan or something)... in the video, Kurzgesagt talks about how chickens are among those that suffer the most in terms of animal cruelty, yet at the end they recommend eating chickens since it's a more efficient use of resources.

I mean...efficiency and cruelty are two sides of the same coin.
It's economically efficient to ration by price - but to people who can't afford overinflated prices for basic necessities...

We also empathize less with chickens, I wonder if that plays any role.

Well, it probably is cruel of me to think so but they're my food. I don't really empathize with chickens. Even if I looked at it from their point of view because I'm not in their position. Never have been and never will be. I understand that they're treated so cruelly but since it's done so I can have something to eat I find myself incapable of caring.

I actually had a pet chicken as a child. I care more for chickens than other animals like cows or pigs. I'll only ever see those as steak and bacon.

This really would make a run-in with an advanced alien civilisation terrifying, though. They're not likely to see us as anything more than pesky predators to destroy, or great sources of nutrition.
