  • 'ORD' is 'Operationally Ready Date' - the end of a Singaporean man's National Slavery Service
'loh' is a mangled pronunciation of 'le', or 了, which indicates past tense
hence, ORD LOH -> 'I have ORD-ed', which people close to or on the day of their ORD yell loudly, especially at people who just got into their units, because fuck xin jiao amirite

  • So, my mom's 71 and started having excruciating pain in a hip. She took 3 Tylenols during the night, 3 more in the morning, then did some other stuff for about an hour and took 3 more inadvertently...you can guess where I'm going with this. Tylenol overdose. I was at school and she was in a bad way when I finally came home.

This shit is no joke. She took about 1300mg too much. Her heart was pounding and she couldn't get up without fainting. Pissed basically clear water, no urea. She wasn't drinking or eating anything and kept pissing that clear water as if she was drinking a gallon an hour. Despite this, I had to basically force her to go to the ER. Stubborn old lady.

Thankfully, as are most stubborn old ladies she's also a tough old lady and shouldn't have any lasting damage after hospitalization.

I stayed at her side for almost the whole week, skipping most of my classes except for an exam. I generally don't have any class on Fridays but I went to use the labs to do some of the assignments I missed (which count on the final grade)...and the electronics storage was closed. It's supposed to be open all week and it was supposed to be open when I was there. I waited an hour, knocked on the door, nothing to do. I was fuming when I got back home. Now I'm not sure I'll be able to find time to do those assignments and I'm going to lose these points. I still have no idea why there wasn't anybody at all there the whole time.

Just been a shitty fucking week. I hope this month picks up, but given that I am starting to be broke and I'm out of green tea, I doubt it will.

  • Sorry to hear, man. My mother had a stroke about three months ago, and though she's recovering really well, my life just sort of ground to a halt for a few days. I basically slept in the hospital. When I slept at all, anyway.

Anyway, they've decided I'm so good with the trainees that they're going to make me the night shift trainer. This is really nice, because I'll be working fewer hours, but getting the same pay. I will miss leading a team, though. You don't know how much you still have to learn about people until you have to get them to do the simplest task at a job.

  • Wow, seems things haven't been great for moms of Wintreans lately. My mom was in the ER on 9/3, then she spent a week in the hospital last month, and I stayed with her there both times. I hope that winter will be a better season for us and our moms.

  • So, amusing coincidence time.

Some weeks ago, I was riding the bus home from work.  There was this really cute guy two seats behind be, and some typical crazy bus people in between us and on the other side of them.

I don't even entirely remember what the conversation was, mainly one was crying about pretty much nothing, and the other one was muttering and swearing, conversing with the crying one and constantly repeating entire sentences.

The entire time, the cute guy and I kept looking at each other and really trying not to laugh.  We both had to turn away and points when we did, especially because the overly crying woman would occasionally keep trying to talk to one of us.

When the bus finally reached the transit center, I rode off and stopped at Gamestop for really no reason except to talk to a friend of mine that worked there. I was about to leave when the cute guy from the bus walked in and started walking around, looking at games.  Naturally, I stayed, playing the demo games on the PS4 to keep busy so I could casually check him out while he was walking around.

Eventually, he made his way to the Switch section, which is only a short couple of feet away from the PS4 demo console.  I mustered some courage and began talking games with him.  He was looking for games to play, and I told him what I'd been hearing about Super Mario Odyssey (mind you, this was before I bought my Switch and played it).

He ended up buying it based on my recommendation.  Which I'm surprised he did so since it's a $60 game right now.  But he ended up leaving, and I pretty much walked up to my Gamestop friend and told her how cute he was.

Turns out, we actually knew each other already.

We've been talking on OkCupid a bit since September.  He ended up messaging me yesterday recognizing me (we had stopped talking for a bit since mid-October), and I was honestly blown away that I didn't recognize him from his OkCupid picture.  But to be fair, he was exceptionally cuter in person.

So we're talking some more again.  I gave him my number, so hopefully we'll switch over to texting and setting up plans for an actual meet up.
