My character's backstory was that she developed a slipspace drive as part of her ph d thesis and nearly creates a singularity by accident.

A wintreath Space academy officer watched this and as a condition of her not failing and being jailed, drafts her here.

If you want to join at this planet, we're currently at the outermost outpost of Wintreath. It wouldn't make sense for experimental tech to be developed there. In any case, Robin's character has already been developing and implementing a warp drive over the last several years.

So.  Much. Work.  (I believe it was fiveish years of his life now, along with his fellow Vulcan contingent?  )

And we have lots of crazy people on board, I'm sure... just crazy in different ways!! 

Zerick ain't crazy! Just think of him as Commander Tucker from Star Trek: Enterprise.

Well, if you think about it, several of the Normandy crew are a little crazy: Wrex, Jack, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Thane, Mordin, Javik, Zaeed. All a little bit crazy.

But resident asshole goes to Gunther. That's his role and nobody can take that away!

I didn't actually find Wrex to be crazy. Desperate to save a species that doesn't want to be saved, more like. But yes, all the others you mentioned were most definitely somewhat crazy. Especially Jack and Morinth. And Shepard in Mass Effect 3.

EDIT: But I must say I didn't find Javik to be crazy either. He was remarkably well adjusted considering the fact that he was the last of the Propheans. What he was, was ice cold and incredibly logical.

Wrex, Legion and Javik actually define Mass Effect for me.

Yeah, I'll give you that. He's pretty level-headed... for a Krogan.

I'll try pointing out the people that I can infer are crazy from all of the Wintrean expedition threads:
Fern Hun: Paranoid
Aine Hiwat: Very religious
Gunther: Goes crazy with his minigun
HKR: Programmed to eliminate humans(not it's fault)
I most likely missed some people who are crazy.

HKR is not crazy and if you say it is it will terminate you

I watched all of Enterprise, and I have to say that Captain Archer is one of the most badass Star Trek captains.
