    So...I'm curious. What exactly is it meant by "The North"? The North of what? The earth, any given country or continent or is it meant to be a reference to The American Civil War's North?

    Anything you want it to mean. Point Breeze and I went for the Game of Thrones north. Sapphiron went for a compass pointing north. It's sufficiently vague to mean just about anything.
