Stronghold is just a great series, with being able to design walls and defenses and stuff...I always wondered why that serious never became more popular.

Stronghold was one of the big games from my childhood. My brothers and I would take turns building up castles and placing troops while the other would try to capture the castles. Good times.

I was a senior in high school when I first started playing it, but it had already been out a few years because I got it as part of a cheap pack of games that also included Tropico and Airport Tycoon...back when they had cheap packs of game CDs at places like Wal-Mart.

It's always puzzled me why there aren't more games where you can design your own castle or keep. Maybe it's something that most people aren't enthusiastic about like I am, lol.
