Sheer boredom, honestly.

I have a tendency to disappear from NS for extended periods of time and then join multiple random regions when I come back, then drop off again. This time I came to Osiris and Wintreath simultaneously... my Osiris puppet has probably CTE'd though, and I've made no posts except for my citizenship application. Both Osiris and Wintreath were chosen pretty much at random.

Usually I drop off of NS pretty much immediately after joining random regions, but I really liked it here, so I'm sticking around.

What are your favorite books?

I used to read a lot, not so much now. Recently I've been reading a lot of pop history, though. 1491 and 1493 by Charles Mann are great books on the history of the native people of the Americas. I'm currently reading Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond, which analyzes the history of societies around the world (rather than focusing on 2-3 continents).

In terms of fiction, I really enjoyed the Harry Potter books and the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. Haven't read either in years, though. I finished reading the ASOIAF books back in February or so, and I'd count them among my favorites as well.

Since then, I've read other historian's opinions of Jared Diamond, and it seems that while some of his points are valid, he is criticized for heavy card-stacking to support his views, while ignoring evidence that, in some cases, completely contradicts his points.

Yeah, I'm aware he's pretty heavily criticized (the same community that made me aware of his existence has a love-hate relationship with him ). Once I'm done with the book, I'm going to read through some of the criticism so I have a more balanced view.

I want to see a happy reunited Stark family, with everyone still alive, on the throne. I even own a Stark shirt.

But out of the Houses I consider to be more serious candidates for the throne at this point, I'm leaning toward Targaryen. They're my second-favorite House, and I think it's feasible for Dany to win the Throne... if she would finally leave her damn continent.

I saw that one before I started reading, but when he cited that as his sole source I had my doubts... I was annoyed too.

I haven't - I'll look it up in a bit. If it involves victory for the Starks then I'll probably follow it, no matter how optimistic it is.

I don't think so. IIRC the evidence used draws from the books (the S3 spoiler warning, I think, is for show watchers who haven't read the book yet). This was written when the show hadn't diverged much from the books, so there shouldn't be any show-specific spoilers.

I can't even argue against that. I don't really have a good reason for supporting her, she just seemed likable to me so I jumped on board the Targaryen bandwagon.

I wouldn't be displeased if Tyrion won the throne, though. I mostly despise the Lannisters, but he's probably my favorite character of any house.

He's a lot of people's favourite. Which probably means he'll die in some dramatic way closer to the end.

And Dany is initially easy to root for. She had a brutally abusive older brother, she was hunted from the day she was born, and she wanted to use her power with her marriage to the Khal for good, but we can now pretty much see just how crazy she is, and how incompetent. It probably isn't even completely her fault, since she never had a better example than Viserys to base her behaviour on, but by the gods, having her on the Iron Throne would cause a new civil war pronto.

Pretty much the only reason she got to where she was, was her dragons.

While Dany is going to leave destruction in her wake, I'd argue that she's not as incompetent as most think. This essay series on the ADWD Meereen arc analyzes the situation quite well, in my opinion.
