Hey everyone! North here, I just wanted to get see what the people think of this idea I have, see what the public opinion is.

Basically, my idea is to limit the number of consecutive (and only consecutive terms, its not an absolute limit where once you've served that's it) terms members of the Underhusen may serve. My idea is to limit members so that they may serve only 2 consecutive terms before they have to sit an election out so as to give every member a fair shot without the advantage of incumbency for certain candidates. However, I realize that such limits may be seen as restricting the UH, the only democratic part of the government, and that there might be concerns that there will be a wave of uncontested elections so I have 2 ideas to make it less restrictive. The first idea is simple: the Monarch may wave Term Limits as he sees fit on every election. This is so that if the Monarch is concerned that there may be an uncontested election he can allow current UH members who are Term Limited to seek a third term. The second idea is that Term Limited candidates may seek re-election but must have a certain number of people who support a third term before the limits are waved, a sort of candidate petition, if you will. The exact number can be decided by the UH every term or may be a fixed number or percentage.

Anyway, this is just my idea. I'm hoping to start a discussion and see what everyone else thinks of this. Feel free to say anything you like, I just want to see where everyone stands on this and if y'all have any additions you'd like to see. Thank you and I hope you have a pleasant day, everyone :]

Two consecutive terms and a one term break sounds reasonable.  And I heartily approve of the clause regarding the Monarch being able to waive the restriction if necessary.

I'm personally ambivalent on the idea.

On one hand, in areas where democracy exists I've never believed in adding restrictions...in my mind, if it's an issue then the time for it to come into play is someone is running for re-election, when the issue can be weighed against everything they have and could contribute as an individual. It's entirely possible that someone is elected because they're doing a legitimately good job. However, seeing as it is a democratic area of the region, and knowing the high bar  that Constitutional amendments must pass, if this is what is wanted I won't oppose it.

Legally it can be done without an amendment to the Fundamental Laws.

It'd be cool to check the archives on how many UH members go on for 2+ consecutive terms.

I don't see how, seeing that the restrictions for running for election are set in Article IV Section 1 and Article V Section 7 additionally maintains their right for Citizens to stand for any elected government offices.

I went ahead and looked this up...the following people served 3 consecutive terms in the Underhusen (nobody has served more).

Chanku (Sessions 1-3)
HannahB (Sessions 10-current[12])
Hugsim (Sessions 6-8)
Laurentus (Sessions 9-11)
Reon (Sessions 7-9)
Weissreich (Sessions 2-4)

I served three sessions in a row? God, I must've hated myself...

I find it really fascinating that no one has served more than three in a row...
This rather indicated that this term limit may be useless...

It's a soft limit, it seems.  Like how for the better part of American history presidents chose not to serve more than two terms.  Then someone came along and said "I actually don't care" and won three times.

4 times, actually. FDR was an amazing individual.

I should point out that in Chanku's case, his run ended at three terms because he lost re-election, not because he decided not to run for a fourth time.
