Good Evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Wintreath's first ever Closed Chess Championship!

For this tournament, we will be using Chess.com. If you don't already have an account there, creating one is a simple matter, and then you have to submit your name here for me to work out the draws for each round.

Once the list of players is finalised, each person will be assigned an opponent. Whoever has the most points by the end, will be declared the winner of the tournament, and will be that much closer to being crowned King or Queen of Summersend!

How many rounds there will be will depend on multiple factors, including how many people participate.

Points will also be awarded simply for taking part in the tournament!

Will the games be played live, or with longer turn times (24 hours)?

I would prefer live, under normal circumstances, but given the nature of the event, it would probably be best to use the long-play functionality.

Sure, that seems like fun. I would have to become a member of that website first.

I should point out that we don't necessarily have to use that website. In fact, I'd welcome any suggestions for a better one.

Whatever works, it's all chess. I'd recommend anything that allows asynchronous play. If you intend to run it synchronously with both players present the whole time, I would suggest a speed chess variant.

Since this is intended, I think, to be a friendly sort of activity, speed chess might actually be a good idea.. it will take some of the edge some people have from just being super good at chess.

I think chess.com will be alight, I looked around the site and it seems to be pretty fit for purpose.

It seems there just isn't a lot of interest, but I'd definitely like to play individual games against anyone who's willing.

You live in the UK, right? So that means you follow the GMT time, right?

If so, perhaps tomorrow at about 14:00 would work?

I could play on my tablet then while sitting at the university doing my projects, as they have free wifi, while my home doesn't have an uncapped data plan.
