  • (Kane, did you edit the ending line after another post was already made??)

    I've paid my dues
    Time after time
    I've done my sentence
    But committed no crime
    And bad mistakes
    I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
    But I've come through

(And I need to go on and on, and on, and on)

We are the champions, my friends
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end
    We are the champions
    We are the champions
    No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world

  • I did but only to bold what was actually the last word of that post, not the word that had been treated as the last word.

  • Oh that's my bad then I just assumed you meant the song continues but you wanted the end of that stanza to be considered your "end"

  • Actually I had cut off most of the line so that it ended with that word.  The ellipses was showing the song continued but gimme was supposed to be the "end".  I just wanted to try ending on a single word instead of a full line of a song. :P

  • I see.  Well time to be fancy and establish that foreign lyrics can be employed so long as the same word is there... :P

    Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
    Über alles in der Welt,
Wenn es stets zu Schutz und Trutze
    Brüderlich zusammenhält.
Von der Maas bis an die Memel,
Von der Etsch bis an den Belt,
    Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
    Über alles in der Welt!

    Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
    Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang
    Sollen in der Welt behalten
    Ihren alten schönen Klang,
    Uns zu edler Tat begeistern
    Unser ganzes Leben lang.
    Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
    Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang!

    Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
    Für das deutsche Vaterland!
    Danach lasst uns alle streben
    Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
    Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
    Sind des Glückes Unterpfand;
    Blüh' im Glanze dieses Glückes,
    Blühe, deutsches Vaterland!

  • Oh, sweet thing
    Zion doesn't love you
    And Babylon don't love you
    But you love everything
    Oh, you saint
    America don't love you
So I could never love you
    In spite of everything

In the dark of this place
There's the glow of your face
There's the dust on the screen
    Of this broken machine
And I can't help but feel
    That I've made some mistake
    But I let it go
Ya Hey, Ya Hey, Ya Hey

Through the fire and through the flames
You won't even say your name
Through the fire and through the flames
You won't even say your name
Only "I am that I am"
But who could ever live that way?
    Ut Deo, Ya Hey
    Ut Deo, Deo

Oh, the motherland don't love you
    The fatherland don't love you
    So why love anything?
    Oh, good God
The faithless, they don't love you
The zealous hearts don't love you
    And that's not gonna change

Though this feeling I can't change
But please don't take it so badly cause lord knows I'm to blame
But if I stayed here with you, girl
Things just couldn't be the same
Cause I'm free as a bird now

But you'll never find a beer so brown (x2)
As the one we drink in our hometown (x2)

  • Far over the Misty Mountains cold,
To dungeons deep and caverns old,
We must away, ere break of day,
To seek our pale enchanted gold.

The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,
While hammers fell like ringing bells,
In places deep, where dark things sleep,
In hollow halls beneath the fells.

For ancient king and elvish lord
There many a gleaming golden hoard
They shaped and wrought, and light they caught,
To hide in gems on hilt of sword.

    On silver necklaces they strung
The flowering stars, on crowns they hung
    The dragon-fire, on twisted wire
They meshed the light of moon and sun.

Far over the Misty Mountains cold,
To dungeons deep and caverns old,
We must away, ere break of day,
    To claim our long-forgotten gold.

Goblets they carved there for themselves,
And harps of gold, where no man delves
There lay they long, and many a song
Was sung unheard by men or elves.

The pines were roaring on the heights,
The wind was moaning in the night,
The fire was red, it flaming spread,
The trees like torches blazed with light.

The bells were ringing in the dale,
And men looked up with faces pale.
The dragon's ire, more fierce than fire,
Laid low their towers and houses frail.

The mountain smoked beneath the moon.
The dwarves they heard, the tramp of doom.
They fled the hall to dying fall
Beneath his feet, beneath the moon.

Far over the Misty Mountains grim,
To dungeons deep and caverns dim,
We must away, ere break of day,
To win our harps and gold from him!

Lyrical smile, indigo eyes, hand on my thigh
We could follow the sparks, I'll drive
    "So where we gonna go?"
    I whisper in the dark
    "Where we gonna go?"
    I think he knows

    He got my heartbeat
    Skipping down 16th Avenue
I got that, ah, I mean
Wanna see what's under that attitude like
I want you, bless my soul
And I ain't gotta tell him, I think he knows
    I think he knows

(Surprisingly hard to find a song I know and like with "him" in it; most songs are love songs and most love songs are written in second person. Considered continuing the Tolkien but was difficult. Was going to do "The Fall of Gil-galad" but I can't consider it a song because I personally don't listen to any version set to actual music. Also considered "The Man in the Moon Stayed Up Too Late" but the abridged version set to music from the movies doesn't have "him" in it either.)

    You're breakin' up
Tell you I believe you, but I don't

    And baby, you're so lucky
    And baby, you're so lucky
You get away with it all

And even though you g-g-g-got me
    You still want it all

I've certainly been posting significant amounts of pop as a genre, but a lot of it isn't actually the type to get large radio play/hit the charts. :D In terms of recognizable popular music, looking back I'd say you've had a significant share too already. :P

  • Eh what the heck I will put up a song I don't like.  I have been posting songs that I like whether or not they are often heard on the radio and to me it seems like the majority of the songs taulover has been posting for a while have been daily radio songs although I don't listen to what is specifically today's hit music (I think that is what pop means).  I also avoid listening to any station that plays music from after the 80s although it is impossible for me to completely avoid them since I don't drive and the stations that I would listen to here have terrible service because they are more concentrated in other places.

People do you hear me, just give me the sign

  • Yeah, I've noticed that you tend to like it whenever I post older mainstream/popular music. :P Which I tend to prefer not to do since those are the most recognizable ones for everyone but I still did it a few times (some Queen and Backstreet Boys for instance).

I'm curious, what makes you eschew newer music? (I personally hold that there is nothing inherently better or worse with older music, though of course it's going to be easier to find good old music because of what has stood the test of time and you have an established canon of what's good already.)

By "pop" I mean the loosely defined genre of music, different from rock and hip-hop, that tends to be on the charts often. Stealing from Wikipedia, it tends to have shorter length, simpler structure such as verse-chorus, etc. Not all pop music is hit radio music and not all hit radio music is pop music.

My preference tends to be more toward experimental, indie/alternative, and art pop. For instance, my latest post was from a PC Music & SOPHIE-produced album and features some interesting sounds. I have also posted several Carly Rae Jepsen pieces, who (apart from Call Me Maybe) could practically be considered an indie artist for how little commercial attention she gets despite critical acclaim. When I see the opportunity I also have been posting more obscure tracks from popular pop albums. (And of course there's that one LOTR song I posted which Robin responded to with the classic Misty Mountains song, but I recognize that that's an exception there.) In general I try to showcase songs that I feel get slept on, though it's not always easy and sometimes I'm lazy or feel like posting something more mainstream. :D

Anyway, for a bit of a change:
