  • When I looked it up, one person said the ISA stands for "Intersex" "Spirit" and "Allies"

Huh... I thought A stood for Asexual :s I am not sure anyone is 100% on what it all stands for anymore.

I just really stick to LGBTQ+ :)  as a sort of compromise :s

I think it goes both ways, though they could always change "Ally" to "Friend" and add an F if they want to add people who support the LGBTQ+ community.

  • You're trans too? Yay

:) it's nice to meet somone who is also trans. I have literally never talked to another trans person before... :)

That makes sort of sense, guess I was sort of wrong :)

Well, the base definition of the word is "Strange" or "unusual"  but if I'm correct, "Queer" for the Q part of LGBTQ applies to people who identify as Genderqueer...or more appropriately Gender fluid/non-binary as I've seen people identify as these days:

    Definition via Wiki

In shorter terms, people who consider themselves neither masculine nor feminine, but travel all around that spectrum normally consider themselves Genderqueer/Gender fluid/non-binary.

  • I don't know if it's 'cause I'm a closed-minded twat but I don't get how you can fluctuate between genders or even have none. I never felt the need to distinguish between my gender and my sex. I refer to myself as a "man" because I have a penis, and the line of thought kinds of stops there. I might not be a very good man because I'm fully aware I fail at my gender role but that doesn't mean I'm not one.

Not gonna say anymore on the matter lest I step on a mine and blow up. This subject is an incredibly finicky one.

  • My train of thought on the subject also pretty much begins and ends at having a penis, thus making me a man.

I don't really care about traditional gender roles either, as they aren't truly relevant to the modern world.

  • So I'm curious, Seroim and Laurentus...if for some reason your penises were to be removed, like if an angry ex were to chop them off and reattachment was impossible, would you no longer be men? :P

I think as it finds more social acceptance and technology improves, you're going to see more gender fluidity...it will get easier to change your body in any way you want, and the results will be more convincing. Our bodies will become an expression of who we feel we are and what we want it to be. And that's before most people switch to living in simulated worlds where bodies can be changed with a thought...

Did I mention that futurology is a hobby for me? :P The point is, I think gender identity will become a case of mind over matter as we go into the future.

  • Also gender is specifically not what your bits are... That's like a really hella big piece... Bits are irrelevant to the mind... It's who you are, how you present, and how you feel...
Gender in some places is already seeing vast fluidity without seeing changes in body because those two things aren't truly connected... Gender is an expression of the mind and as such I know many who don't express or feel along the same lines as others (enbys) or who don't express upon any lines in specificity (gendervoid or agender ) or who express one way today and a different the next (genderfluid) or express almost nothing except for the barest of connections to one of the genders along the binary (demiboy/girl) or something I've not ever quite understood which someone else has described to me but I never quite got...
The bits, your penis in the above case, are irrelevant to gender. Consider them separate pieces... Both Seroim and Laurentus were assigned male at birth because of those bits and luckily for them they both appear to be very comfortable with that assignment... Others are less fortunate or at least have to deal with more confusion over the matter...
Gender is a finnicky business, you're right, but when people are given freedom over their expression... Oh man, you can see some beautiful shit... Really happy people living precisely how they want to in those circumstances...
For me... Gender has been mostly irrelevant...  I've been a girl, I've been a boy, I've been enby, and I've been void... I've been comfortable in just about all those positions and expressions and for that I am quite glad...
On the ISA thing... A does not stand for motherfucking allies... Not at all, Jesus... Asexual and agender for the A's... Allies not being a gender or sexuality experience, it doesn't really belong there... Allies don't need a bloody letter.
As for the S, usually I see it written out as just an addition to the Intersex... Having the IS be together... *shrugs* I might not be paying attention though...

  • If my bits were removed, I doubt I'd change much. Well, okay, I may be depressed at the prospect of not being able to have children, but as far as my personality or sexual identity goes, I'd still consider myself to be a man, and be absolutely comfortable in that role. I'd still find blondes with blue eyes, big hips and medium breasts irresistible too. That's just the way I am.

I understand it may not be that way for everyone.

  • Unless your balls were cut off too, then you'd become a eunuch without a libido. Interesting enough, eunuchs have been found to live on average 13.5 years longer, due to the lack of testosterone that suppresses the immune system. So I guess at least you'd be well-lived.

    I'm getting off-topic though. :P

My train of thought on the subject also pretty much begins and ends at having a penis, thus making me a man.

I don't really care about traditional gender roles either, as they aren't truly relevant to the modern world.

You both are absolutely correct that having a penis or lack of essentially is what distinguishes between a man and a woman in the physical sense, unless you go into hermaphrodites/intersex people that have both genetalia.

However, mentally is a completely different monster compared to physical.  One can have all of the physical characteristics of a man, but believe strongly with all of their heart and soul that they're actually a woman.  Physically still they're a man, but mentally they're a woman.  They think like a woman, act like a woman, their inner voice is most likely a woman, and they like to do things that women normally enjoy (which in itself is another topic I'll talk about in a sec), but that the physical part of them is still completely male.  That's why crossdressing and potentially going beyond that is such a common thing these days.

For some people, drag is a performance thing where they play a character.  For others, it's an experiement to see how it feels to "be" the other sex.  And for some, it's the comfortable transition they can take until they're ready/able to go through the more grueling part of becoming the other sex.  For the last one, it's essentially stepping out of it being "drag" and into the beginning stages of becoming transgender in the physical sense (as at this point they'd already be so in the mental/emotional sense).

But considering we do have transgender people on here, perhaps they can say it better than I can.

Anyways...moving on beyond that, considering it's highly possible for people to feel as if they're in the wrong sex (and again, it's actually pretty common), it's just as possible for someone to feel like they neither want to be masculine or feminine.  They may be a man that enjoys watching football, playing Call of Duty, hunting, and other things that would attributed to "masculinity," but at the same time they might enjoy shopping, baking, watching ballet, getting a pedicure/manicure, and other things that may be attributed to "Femininity."

In other words, they adhere to neither term in the mental/emotional sense, but they jump around the spectrum because they believe that both sides have absolutely no real meaning and shouldn't "define" people by who they are.

Some will go further than that aspect and go into guys wearing dresses, heels, and/or makeup, and likewise women wearing clothes that may be considered more masculine, simply because they want to.

I don't really consider myself "Gender fluid" (I do like defining myself as on the border between masculine/feminine, but with one foot more in the masculine side) but I do agree with the reasoning of people that do.  It should be more about who you are and what you like, rather than trying to see how masculine/feminine you can describe yourself as because you like so many manly/girly things.  If a guy wants to wear a dress, why shouldn't he be allowed to without having to look like a woman to do it?

  • I doubt I'd want to live for an extra 13 years without balls. Not wanting to have sex would be terrible. And even that is a secondary problem to not being able to reproduce.

I believe I did say that I don't really care about people's genders or their perceived genders. It's largely a thing of the past. Our survival doesn't really depend on people's gender-specific perceptions of themselves anymore, so if people want to change their sexes, I honestly don't see the problem.

That being said, I am completely comfortable with both my real and psychological sexual identity as a man.
