Hello there, my name is Hannah, or as I go by here HannahB

I am the current Jarl of Information here in the region, which implies dealing with journalism within the region, but that is far from all I do or talk about.

Compared to some mentors here I am relatively inexperienced with NS and have only ever been in Wintreath however, I am good at listening and after hearing their great words, I am now fully equipped to help you learn the ropes either here in Wintreath, in NS as a whole, or even both!

One of my favourite things to do is answer questions, so never feel afraid to ask me anything, if you really need my assistance, the fastest ways to get in touch with me are via PM here on the forums or on the IRC which I frequent.

I think that is all you'd need to know for a primer about myself, I hope you have a great time here as I have, and if there is anything you need never hesitate to ask!

I HIGHLY doubt this guy is an honest newbie who's lost.

I suppose I myself am fairly new, maybe a month I've been here if even, but I still have a question. If I were to represent another nation I have created here on the forums, would I need to fill out a separate application for them? for should I make a separate forum profile entirely and fill out an application, either one is fine, I just figured I'd ask.

Hey there!

You can create multiple forum accounts if you would like, but only one of them can have Citizenship. This is to prevent people from being able to have multiple votes in elections, for example. If you do decide to make multiple accounts, I would recommend making it clear that the same player is behind them. On the other hand, sometime in the near future we'll be rolling out character and nation profiles, which will allow you to create multiple profiles for characters and nations and attach them to your user profile...basically listing all your nations and characters under your name. If this is something you'd like to see or would be a good alternative, feel free to join the discussion. We can use all the help we can get in making the forums and the region more useful for roleplayers.

Hey, my name is Owen, just started on NationStates. Seems like a cool game I'll probably stick around.

My only question right now is, I'm sort of confused on the purpose of a region for the game itself. Aside from the congress and such, in the game, what does a region do? It looks like there aren't wars or anything. What role would I have?

Hey Owen, that's a good question.

Regions are a lot like clans or guilds in other games...they're groups within the community that have their own people, way of doing things, things to offer players, etc. I'm sure you were bombarded with telegrams on what many regions had to offer when you joined. You don't technically have to be involved with a region, but it's a good idea if you want to do more than answer issues or if you want to socialize with other players.

As for your role...that's up to you. We have people in government, people that roleplay, play games, or just shoot the breeze and chat. NationStates is a game where you get what you put into it, so your role largely depends on what you want to do here.

are there any rules i should know about ?

If I remember correctly the rules here can be pretty much summarized as not being too much of a jerk and being civil but it would be better if someone who actually knows what the rules are and where they can be found answered your question.  @taulover or @Gerrick would likely know where to find them.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "rules". If you mean what you aren't allowed to do, you can read through the current Code of Criminal Laws. So as Kane said, pretty much just be respectful to each other.

Welcome to Wintreath, bridgett! Familial houses right now are mostly just a way to formalize ties between friends (or to make new friends). We haven't been able to come up with much of a use for them besides a house-related RP that unfortunately never really got off the ground last year.
