  • Hello new forum members and Citizens!
This topic is here for you to ask any questions - any at all - about how Wintreath works, your application, what to do after you've been granted Citizenship, and any other manner of concerns you might have about the region and your role in it.

Here to answer your questions are:
    • Myself, your Jarl of Integration and Thane of World Assembly Affairs (more commonly known as the Vice Delegate),
    • The Mentor Corps, staffed by prominent individuals in Wintrean society,
    • And, of course, Wintermoot, the Monarch himself, and the rest of his Riksrad (Cabinet) and Storting (Legislature).

Plus all that, many of you reading this may be assigned a mentor (or you already have one!).  Research(TM) shows that asking your mentor a lot of questions is a great way to learn about Wintreath and how our little region works.  To help you out, check out this list of ten interesting questions to ask your mentor:

10 Great Questions to Ask Your Mentor
    10.  What do all these forums mean?
We have a ton of forums and subforums, it's true.  Believe it or not, just about all of them will be active in a 24-hour period.  They're each worth exploring on your own time, but it wouldn't hurt for your mentor to give you a quick run-down on each one.

    9.  What's going on now, or coming up soon, as far as cultural activities?
Our Ministry of Culture has made it very easy to find and join upcoming cultural activities, but mentors are, by their nature, involved and active citizens.  They'll have the story on what roleplays are active, when contests are starting, or when voting on the next game of the month takes place.

    8.  What government positions are open now?
Regional government in Nationstates is one of the underrated parts of the game.  It's a completely unique way to connect with a community.  Wintrean government offers several positions to enterprising, motivated individuals.  Talk to your mentor if you're interested in serving the region.

    7.  What are Jarls and Thanes?  What is a Storting?
...That said, our government can be a little complicated at first glance.  Once you get past the Scandinavian-ish names, everything will make a lot of sense and seem more familiar.  Ask your mentor about it - there's usually a Thane position open somewhere!

    6.  Who's the best person to talk to about [X]?
Sometimes our mentors can't answer your questions completely, or someone else might be able to go into a little more detail.  Your mentor will know who to contact if you have a deeper interest in a subject than they can satisfy on their own.

    5.  Where did you get started in the region?
Each of our mentors took a different path to get to where they are now.  Some came from other regions, while others might have their first ever NS nation here in Wintreath.  Let your mentor tell you about how they became involved in the region - it could help you rise above as well.

    4.  What are the big issues confronting Wintreath right now?
Wintreath is a massive region with intricate foreign policy and a wealth of domestic programs.  We're constantly trying to grow, improve our society, or respond to outside stimuli.  Constitutional amendments, new government positions, military operations, and other exciting developments might be on the horizon at any time.

    3.  Can you tell me a little about the history of Wintreath?
The story of UCR's (or user-created regions) in Nationstates would fill several large volumes.  Wintreath has a unique story of its own, with our founder and Monarch's departure from the region of Spiritus.  We've grown a lot from our humble beginnings, and sometimes it's important to take a look back and see how far we've come.

    2.  How can I interact with the region on Nationstates?
While our off-site forum is massive and the center of regional events, this IS a Nationstates region, of course.  Talk to your mentor about what we do "on-site" and how the game in general works.

    1.  What's your favorite thing about Wintreath?
Our mentors aren't in this for the pay, they do it because they want to share the love and success that Wintreath has given them with others.  Your mentor's answer might give you a clue into how Wintrean society works and what kind of experiences you can hope to have here, too.

Thanks for reading, and welcome to Wintreath!

  • Hello everyone, Pengu here!

Currently, I'm acting as Jarl of Culture while our actual Jarl is away, and now I'll also be acting as a mentor for new members.  I joined Wintreath in September of last year after first being the emissary to it from 10000 Islands.  I fell in love with the people and the atmosphere, and decided to leave 10KI and migrate to Wintreath instead.

One thing I really love is games and activities that can bring people together and create bonds between others.  I believe they're a fantastic ice breaker to relieve tension and are good for people to get to know each other.  They're also a great way to bring exciting new faces to the forums, since everyone loves a good game.

The biggest example of one I've seen do wonders when it garners enough interest is Werewolf.  It's one of the most mentally/emotional demanding games online since people can really test your limits...but it's also one of the most entertaining and exciting games for those exact same reasons.  All it takes is one good game of Werewolf, and I've seen people get hooked.

What makes it an interesting game is that it's essentially trying to figure out the liars in a group of people who you know absolutely nothing about.  The bad guys will play continuous mind games since the goal for them is to not get caught.  Heated arguments can happen, people can get upset, but even then it still ends up being a heck of a time to where friends are made and people are already looking forward to the next game.

There's also the fact that it has endless themes to choose from, roles to add in, and much more to change up the experience every time.

And there's much more I can talk about...but I digress.

For those who have never played, it's really quite simple.  Firstly, there are two phases: The day phase (which lasts 48 hours), and the night phase (which lasts for 24 hours).  During each day phase, everyone will discuss and vote for who they think is a bad guy/werewolf this is where you'll see the game go in 1000 different directions and where most of the action happens.  During each night, the assigned "special/power" roles will use their assigned powers while the villagers "rest."  If the werewolves are all voted off, then the good guys win the game.  If the number of werewolves equal the remaining number of villagers, then the werewolves will steal the win.  Specialty roles outside of the defender/seer will have their own conditions to win (IE the assassin must simply survive and they'll share their win with the winning team).

So if you're looking for a game that challenges you on all levels, then Werewolf is definitely your game.  Provided below is a link to signups for the current game: Werewolf III: Yugioh Abridged, as well as links to some of the useful topics to know about:

    Werewolf III: Yu-gi-oh Abridged Signups

The unofficial and important rules of Werewolf

Tips and tricks to help last in Werewolf

I hope to see some of you in Werewolf III, or in any of the future games!  If any of you have absolutely any questions regarding Werewolf, or regarding any of our other current activities (Spyfall, our Festival of Friendship, etc...), or have any suggestions for activities that you'd like to see around Wintreath, please don't hesitate to ask or suggest away!  My job is to do everything in my power to make sure that your stay in Wintreath is a pleasant one, and Wintreath is always looking for new and exciting games/activities to implement.  :)

  • Hello everyone,

I am Prince Chanku L. Kestar, Prince of Wintreath and Jarl of Defense. I've been playing NationStates for a little over a year now.

I've been around since almost the beginning and I helped write and create our current Government. I've held a lot of positions within Wintreath even though I've only been here for about a year.

I also run the Military of Wintreath, the Hvitt Riddaral (and to a lesser extent the Skydande Vakt). I'm also a member of the current Underhusen and the Speaker of the Underhusen. Furthermore I also am somewhat of an expert on Wintrean Law, especially considering I did help write and pass a good bit of it.

There really isn't much to say about myself, but there is a lot to say about Wintreath. However please keep in mind that Wintreath is not a political region for the most part(the most political aspect being the Storting). However we are also a community that is very open so don't be shy.

Also Pengu's the Jarl of Shiny Objects...

-Prince Chanku L. Kestar - Jarl of Defense; Prince of Wintreath.

  • Hi, everyone!

It's great to have you here in Wintreath. For those who have an interest in roleplaying, I do hope that my brief introduction will be of use to you.

The Wonderful World of Wintreath: For those who are into the casual/light roleplaying, this is the place for you! This subforum is dedicated to providing a platform for in-character interactions and conversations without a specific central plot. Everyone is welcomed to set up their own buildings. As of currently, we have a tavern, a resort, an orphanage, cathedral and a fast food restaurant. We also have threads dedicated to expanding the historical, geographical and cultural aspects of Wintreath, with topics ranging from describing notable landmarks within your individual nations or the region as a whole to creating a fictitious religion that originates from within the region. I am pretty sure there are many here who have put in lots of effort into creating a brilliant Factbook for your nation so why not share your masterpieces with your fellow Wintreans. Not to mention, you will be able to find like-minded individuals and their writing here.

Roleplay Discussions and Proposals: Basically, this is the place for roleplay creators to gauge the interest level and decide whether or not they will go into the specifics and for potential roleplayers to ask any irresistible questions that will determine their involvement or lack there of. You will find me lurking there too.

You can set up your own roleplay at The Roleplayers' Gathering.

Our most recent ongoing roleplay is They fell from the sky created by Insectum. Meanwhile, two roleplay proposals have been brought up, Exodus created by JustAGamer as well as Quest for Crystallis created by myself. You can consider taking a look. :)

  • Is there anywhere I could find out about what each of the maskings represent? Some are of course self-explanatory but I'm less sure on others.
We understand how dangerous a mask can be. We all become what we pretend to be. We all wear masks, and the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing some of our own skin.

You mean the different colored names and their meanings?

*Ambassador - Those who represent other regions, aka their ambassadors.

    *Citizen: Self explanatory

*Citizen of the Month: Those who were voted by their peers as Citizen of the Month for the current month.  They just get a special color that they choose for that month, that's really all it means.

*Former Citizen: Self explanatory, these were people that renounced citizenship or disappeared, their nation ceased to exist, or something similar.

*Military Liason: Like Ambassadors, these are people that represent a different military I believe, and are here for discussing potential important military missions.

*Monarch: Self explanatory, it's the reigning King/Queen's masking.

*Overhusen: Self explanatory, these are people in the current session of the Overhusen.  They are the only ones that have access to both the Overhusen forum (in terms of posting/liking/making threads), and share access to the private forum.

*Underhusen: Echoing above, these are the only members that have access to the Underhusen forum (in terms of posting/liking/making threads) and share access to the private forum.

*Paragon: These are members that have been voted on by their peers to be immortalized in an honorable title for all of their work/dedication that they've put into Wintreath.  They're former citizens, but they're memorable ones.

*Riksråd: Jarls and Thanes make up the Riksråd, and have special access to their private forum, as well as the power to moderate forums that are designated specifically to them.

*Tourist: These are members from other regions that don't bear a specific title.  They're neither here for military business nor to give updates like an ambassador.  Many times they're here for festivals, or more accurately the games that we'll put on, such as a couple that you'll see signed up in Werewolf games.

*Village Drifter: The name given to the new members that have made the citizenship thread, but have yet to be given the citizen mask.

  • To add to what Pengu said. Military Liasons are basically Ambassadors from another Region, but the liasions are under the military.

Also Paragons are exempt from all Citizenship requirements and are Citizens.

  • Yes, when Charax briefly returned to the region as a Paragon, he was able to run for election, take office in the Riksråd, and participate in all Citizen areas without moving a nation in or reapplying for Citizenship. That wasn't the way that it had been intended originally, but it set the precedent of Paragons having permanent Citizenship, even if they return and do not apply for normal Citizenship when they could.

  • Also, an interesting product of holding Paragon, is that most of section 2 is non-applicable...and as a Paragon you can hold citizenship within the NPO without worry....

  • True, however unlike non-paragons a person can loose their citizenship upon applying...for paragons a person can not...and they can keep it for a while after they get it....

  • Good day, new blood, and welcome to Wintreath! I am one of the mentors around these parts, and I have also served in the Underhusen for three terms, once as a Speaker. I am currently serving in the Overhusen, and I am also our Thane of Foreign Affairs.

There's not much really to say about myself. I occasionally create laws, try to spread the beautiful philosophy of Imperialism (suck it, 'fendas), and am constantly thinking of new ways to take over NationStates, starting with Wintreath.

In all seriousness, I am an experienced player of NationStates, and have served in the cabinet of every region I've ever joined over the last two years, so if you need any advice, or even if you're just looking for an ear every now and then, I'm sure I can help you, or else direct you to someone who can.
