  • I'm pretty sure most of those other regions wouldn't agree with your assessment of them.

Irrelevant.  We can still strive to improve.

  • Isn't that something Wintreath strives for... to be different?

That argument can't be applied to everything. Besides, this proposal was based on what is the norm in nationstates.

  • That's a fair point, but that is the norm based on Wintermoot's limited experience.
It also doesn't address the fact that it could answer some of the Executive questions people have had here in the past.
To me, it would quash some of the power struggles over the Executive His Majesty's subjects have had.

    A very good point indeed.

Perhaps you could tell us where there are other sunshine provisions in effect, and how long they are? Admittedly my experience with other regions is limited, but if you can't provide other examples then it would seem to me that it isn't the norm based simply on 'Wintermoot's limited experience.

BI also has a sunshine policy in place, right Jone?  Or did they simply just switch all their cabinet meetings to be open to citizen maskings to look at?

I believe for a time, Balder had a sunshine policy.  I don't remember how many months.  Not sure if they still do it.

  • I would say there are probably no other provisions in NS that are called sunshine provisions. Nor admittedly have I seen a case where there is clear legislation that defines a set time when such discussions are open. However, in the British Isles the cabinet discussions are open for all citizens, and ambassadors, to view. The Global Right Alliance has similar privileges.

I believe for a time, Balder had a sunshine policy.  I don't remember how many months.  Not sure if they still do it.

It is not a policy, or legislation, but a mere executive practice.
For the past several Prime Minister terms.

Like I said above, I don't know of any specific legislation, but it is more of a executive practice I have experienced.

It doesn't make sense to me to have legislation written down that precludes a measure for such a long sunshine "cool down". This region is a bit over a year old. How can you legislate for the disclosure of something that might not even be around by the time it can be "declassified"?

If the Monarchy does not wish for the executive discussions to be public that should just be the policy. To act like you're doing your peasants a favor by letting them be "in the know" about last years politics...is a little insulting.

I think that's more than a little out of line.

If you recall, this issue began over a proposed law in the spring which would have allowed Citizens to request information on very specific topics, a law that wasn't Constitutionally viable and even if it were had many other flaws. There was never a request or desire for things to be displayed wholesale, so this policy actually exceeds anything that has actually ever been requested before, and more to the point exceeds the policies of most other regions as I've seen based on my apparent limited experience in NationStates.

I would say there are probably no other provisions in NS that are called sunshine provisions. The South Pacific has a sunshine policy of eight months written into their Code of Laws, though I'm unware of any other regions with a written policy. Informal policies aside, and I would argue that the GRA isn't really applicable here due to its different government structure, it's safe to say that the vast majority of gameplay regions have a private Cabinet area that remains private.

  • The GRA is a direct democracy whose Cabinet is chaired by the legislative speaker, is it not?

  • Sure, but the cabinet discussions are available for all.
TSP is not a monarchy either, as I can remember.
