  • I realize that one could ask specific candidates questions that they had, but a thread where people can ask multiple candidates the same questions can be beneficial as well.

To start, I'd like to ask some questions to each of the candidates.

    1) As part of the Underhusen, you'll have the ability to introduce different legislation into the Underhusen.  What are some particular issues that you wish to address during your term in the Underhusen?

    2) What makes you an ideal candidate for the Underhusen?  This doesn't mean why you think you're better than a specific candidate (nor why they shouldn't be considered above you), but why you think you deserve to be the one that people vote for?  What is it that makes you stand out?

Those are the only questions I have at the moment.  Thank you for your time, and good luck in the elections!

  • 1) I don't see any major issues at the moment, except for the fact that our legislative powers seem to be rather poorly defined re; possible legislative overreach towards executive functions.

    2) I'm rather level headed and know how to get stuff done. I've served on regional assemblies before, along with high government roles in other regions (eg; I'm the current delegate of Osiris).

Thanks for the response.  That brings another question: Pertaining to your first answer, what are some that you feel need a more refined definition?

Thank you for your questions Pengu.

    1. I have several legislative plans in mind.  The first thing I noticed is namely, that bills of attainder and ex post facto laws should not be allowed in Wintreath, but there is no provision for that, and I feel that protections from such laws should be put in place because that is a gaping loophole that could be open to abuse.  My other legislative goals include the following:

    • Establish a draft template that would clearly show changes to existing legislation any amendments make.
    • Ensure our Riksrad is accountable to the people by requiring them to publish a report of what they have done and what their plan is in the long term.  I also believe that at some point, earlier Riksrad discussion should be declassified for public viewing for the people to understand any governmental decisions made in the past.
    • Introduce legislation that would establish a proper glossary of Nordic terms so we have an understanding of what the proper term for government areas would be.  We still have yet to establish that standard.

    2. As for what makes me a good candidate for the Underhusen, I am very detail orientated and meticulous when it comes to focusing on an important task.  I believe details matter when it comes to documentation, including legislation.  I'm an engineer, so a lot of the traits I have as an engineer can come to the table as a legislator.  I will scrutinise all legislation down the finest detail.  I am reasonable enough to compromise on ideas that go with the current and seem practical.  When I'm given a task and a deadline, I will follow through on it to the best of my abilities.  I focus all my attention to it unless multi-tasking, where I then focus based on priority.

I hope I have answered your questions Pengu?

More specifically, I do not feel the Storting should have the ability to amend or repeal Royal Decrees, at least regarding FA matters.

It'd be problematic to remove the sole legislative override, so it would probably require some reworking of what a Royal Decree actually is as well.

I concur.  The job of foreign affairs is up to the executive government to set policy, not the legislative branch.  This is the first monarchical region I've heard of that has executive decrees or foreign policy overridden by legislative fiat, which would set a dangerous precedent.

  • That's all I really had at this time, thanks to both of you for taking the time to answer.  If I think of anymore I'll definitely ask.  In the meantime, if others have questions they'd like to ask the candidates, you're more than welcome to ask them in here as well.

You don't feel that that in itself may infringe on the Executive? The Riksråd is the Executive Cabinet, and I think by this point people should know I'm not afraid to axe people for being inactive. Technically, it's not the Riksråd that's responsible for the long-term vision/plan for the region...it's me.

It's not.   If anything,  it's keeping things transparent with the people through the legislature and knowing what's going on.  These are all possible legislative ideas I have at the moment.

  • I would like to ask why Reon is going to all of a sudden run for Underhusen, when he is still in the Overhusen?  Wintermoot has said elsewhere that you can only be in one of the two houses of the Storting, not both, if I'm not mistaken?

  • Not to me.  You didn't even campaign and I had no idea why you are running when you are in the Overhusen

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 via Tapatalk

Well, for one... The underhusen and the Overhusen have basely different jobs... That's like saying I shouldn't run because I'm a chat OP. While the Overhusen does deal closely with the Underhusen they do have different jobs...
And, as far as I can tell, I can be in both... Though this is just after a cursory glance... There's also no process for removing an Overhusen member... Just replacing ones that have gone absent. Something I do intend to correct, by the way. Can't really have myself approving my own proposals... Rather defeats the purpose.
I am running for Underhusen because I love loopholes... I've exploited them in the past, most notably in spiritus, and I can see some, such as the one above, which really could use some fixing. Other than that the only reasons are to settle a tumultuous crowd with a hand that has done a fair bit of work in NS law and to fix the many basic typos and mistakes in our Fundamental Laws.
At my base, Govindia, I am a con man. In my real life I trick, deceive, and generally talk my way into having anything I need. I have a lot of practice finding the special and broken ways of doing things in contracts and such... I'd rather not anyone but me be able to use them. So I intend to patch the ones I see. I think in many ways our regional law is lacking a traditional politician. A con man.

Wintermoot raised a further point that I suppose I should address here... It was something along the lines of "interesting strategy to paint yourself as a con man. Maybe not the wisest choice." (I would quote it directly but I find myself on the phone.)

And at first I was a bit confused by this, I must say. A con man, to be of any success, must be able to read and execute the law to it's last letter. In my eyes, there's no better group to read law then con men... They're looking through the eyes of someone who would try to take power in a place where they see no benefit for it. At most it's practice for other situations.
Of course I then thought for a second and it occurred to me that some may view this as a bid to gain an extra bit of power within the region... Not an altogether irregular goal. Certainly not one that hasn't happened before. But honestly I must say that I am almost offended by this. I have been in this region for a good amount of time and I have worked with Wintermoot for even longer. If I had wanted to go for a bid of power I would've done it long ago... When I had direct access to the document of the fundamental laws. Or when I could've run for other ministries. Or many other moments that make a hell of a lot more sense than this one. I have always been devoted to Wintreath and it's ideas. This is not a bid for power. I have no need for power over a fictional region. This is a bid for correction. A desperate grab at trying to make things a little bit more clean in the place I spend so much time thinking about.

  • You're over-analyzing what I said...I meant that most people view con men as untrustworthy liars and...well, cons. It's a negative connotation and it was a bit surprising to see someone refer to themselves as a con man in an election. :P
