Typographical Errors Amendment (Revised)

I said on my campaign platform that I would allow typos in the constitution (and other laws, for that matter) to be corrected by the monarch. Well, here's the act I've written up.

Quote
1. Title:
This act may be referred to the Typographical Errors Amendment.

2. Amendment:
We Amend Article VII of the Fundamental laws to read:

Quote
VII. Constitutional Amendments
1. No section under Administration may be amended without the consent of The Winter Nomad.

2. The Storting shall have the authority to propose amendments to the Constitution by a two-thirds supermajority vote of both the Underhusen and Overhusen.

3. The Monarch shall have the authority to correct spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors within the Constitution, where a Typographical Error is defined as an error made in the typing process of printed material.

4. Any Constitutional Amendment proposed by the Storting shall be considered ratified if approved by both the Monarch and by a two-thirds supermajority of the Citizens of Wintreath voting at referendum.

  • Generally dual-laws/Constitutional Amendments are frowned upon, due to the separate processes for laws and Amendments to become ratified. If this Act ever needed to be amended or repealed, which process would we take for it?

I'll probably split the two into separate acts, or drop the law bit entirely.

  • 1) YOu do realize you could have brought this directly to the UH

    2) This isn't written in standard-Wintrean law format.

Here's a version to fit better with the act:
    Quote
    Title
    1. This shall be titled the Typographical Errors of The Fundamental Laws Act

    Amendments
    2. Article VII of the Fundamental Laws shall be amended to include section 4, which shall read,
    Quote
The Monarch shall have the authority to correct spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors within the Constitution
This is generally the setup and for the Statutory Law

    Quote
    1. Title
1.1. This shall be titled The Typographical Error Correction of Statutory
            Laws Act
    2. Typographical Error Correction
2.1 The Monarch shall have the authority to correct spelling,
grammatical and punctuation errors within all Statutory Laws
           passed by the Storting.

There although I will note I will NOT vote for this as this gives a bit too much power to the Monarch, hell I even tried something like this before and it was vetoed in the Overhusen.
    See you later space cowboy.

  • I don't think that too much power to the monarch is an actual issue seeing as the monarch can do almost everything... Remember kids, we ain't a democracy. Not really.
The actual issue is that there is no definition for defining what a typo is. So you can just change one word to a different word with no required approval.
The other thing is that we shouldn't correct problems after they happen. We should never let them happen. Especially when it's something as simple as a typo. Seriously if the entire underhusen can't read something and catch all the typos and errors and then push it through... Then maybe they're not actually reading the law at all. And it shouldn't be passed.

I'll probably nick a definition from Wikipedia. :P

I agree with the idea that we shouldn't let typos happen in the first place, but, fact is, they're inevitable. Hell, there are even typos in the fundamental laws! (I've pointed one out in my campaign thread for Underhusen)
