  • I'm being harsh on all candidates this time around, it's been a popularity contest for at least the last two sittings. I'm sorry you don't consider the Underhusen to be a part of the government, but that does not make it so. My questions have been well within bounds, and I don't believe it is your job to interpret my questions without given tone. Perhaps I'll ask a question you might find more in line, Hugsim, is your name like a hug simulator? Because if so, sign me up!

In all seriousness, I'm very sorry if you feel I'm being harsh on you, Hugsim. All of my questions are asked with no malcontent or ill will, I'm simply trying to make this election about the issues, not popularity.

  • I joined Wintreath on Sept. 17, the day before you. I have also read the laws of the Wintreath, but I don't feel I have quite the grasp of them well enough to stand for election right off the bat. I have a general understanding of how the government here works, but I do not pretend to know it's inner workings (how the Civil Service works, the military, general operations of the Storting, etc.). From my perspective, I know that I, personally, am unqualified to run for election at present. As a fellow newbie, do you feel you have the necessary qualifications to run for office so soon? What are those qualifications? What are the advantages to having a new person as a member of the legislature?
I don't have any qualifications per se, except for being very interested in politics, but I do think that having new members in the UH might give new perspectives on the region and the legislation, which old members might not have after being in it for so long.

A fresh perspective is always good, passion is even better. :)

  • What do you see as Wintreath's Greatest Strengths?
And, what opportunities do you see that you might tackle as an esteemed member of the Underhusen?
The greatest strength is definitely the community.
As I said previously, the first thing I would do is to increase the transparancy in both chambers of the Storting, with for example a pinned thread with how all UH-members voted.

  • Hugsim's response to condescension is sufficient proof that he is capable of remaining professional even if things start to get emotional. For that, I applaud him.

Anyway, Hugsim, if you would, name one flaw that can be found in our laws and state how you would correct it.
I strongly believe that transparency in public offices is close to a requirement for a good democracy, and I therefore want it to be easy to see how all members of both houses voted in all proposals. I would want this written as a part of the fundamental law about elections.

It is good you are questioning all the candidates harshly, I am trying to do the same. I also agree that the last few elections have just been popularity contests to an extent, as I have said in the debate thread. I just felt everyone was rounding on him a bit.

"I don't believe it is your job to interpret my questions".
Pretty obvious that it doesn't matter whoever's job you think that is, I am entitled to comment on it.

@Hugsim I don't like how people say 'you have my vote' without hearing all the candidates, ideas and debates. But you have given a good idea and are answering all your questions well and in the right spirit! Good luck!

I don't know. I would probably suggest that the Speaker of the UH and the Chairperson of the OH to take that responsibility for at least setting up their respective topics, and for each successive Speaker/Chairperson to continue the thread.

  • The Underhusen can probably decide to do this on their own initiative by amending their internal procedures, and then the Overhusen could follow suit if it so chose to. It sounds like an internal procedure issue to me, at least.

I understand that you're not being mean, it's just that different people have different thresholds for where "mean" begins.

As for my name, no. It's not connected to hugging simulators, even though most people seem to think so for some reason :D

I have seen it used in another region. It is a great idea. Makes it so simple in seeing each member's voting record, not to mention the uses towards debate when UH members seek re-election.

As I said previously, I think that transparency is important for functioning democracies in all parts of the government, from the legislative process to the day-to-day stuff that local authorities do.
Not making OH-votes easily available might make it seem as if they're trying to hide what they do, which could lower the public approval of the OH.
