[ABANDONED] Idea: Political Parties?

  • What do my fellow citizens think about formalizing a system for political parties?   I just want to get some feedback; this is nowhere close to being actual legislation (all rights reserved).  I feel like this could be a catalyst for regional activity, both for the legislature and for the citizenry.

If legislation is even appropriate for such a system, then perhaps we (Storting) could mandate 5-10 members minimum for a recognized party?  They could each have their own forum topic, where they could discuss their platform, current events, endorse candidates, etc.  Skrifa and Peers could, of course, also be members of a party.

So, what do you think? :)

    Edit: Grr typos...

  • Oh god no.

As a region that's principled on cooperation over politics and division, it doesn't make sense to adopt a system that would encourage both politics and division. While I usually support anything that raises activity, I learned the hard way in Spiritus that not all activity is good, especially when it's in the form of political infighting.

Edit: Sorry, that probably came off as harsh. I'm just not too keen on repeating the mistakes made in my previous region. -.-

  • Well then. I certainly wasn't expecting such a...passionate response but thank you for it all the same.

The message I'm getting is that you're fundamentally opposed to political parties, as they promote division, us vs. them mentality, etc.  I get that, and to a point, they do. However, this is a political simulation game we're playing, is it not?  I feel that perhaps a moderate (OK, very lightweight) party system could help citizens debate more effectively and, as I've said, increase activity.

Perhaps there's a way we can learn from the failures of the party system in Spiritus?  I'm sorry, I'm not wholly familiar with the regions' histories with one another.

  • Just because this is a political game doesn't mean that we have to be a political region...in fact one of the unique points about Wintreath is that we are not. Political regions are a dime a dozen...moving in that direction would only detract from what's special about our region. Having divisions and infighting could increase activity, yes, but is that really the sort of activity that we want as a region? Having been involved and led a more political region, I can safely say I wouldn't want to repeat that experience.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be an ass, but I'm going to be fundamentally opposed to anything I feel contradicts A Community Vision. It's essentially what my vision of the regional community when it was founded, and if I didn't fight for the principles I envisioned and I believe have contributed to the region's success thus far...well, I would suck as a leader. :P

  • Trust me Breeze, political parties was the first thing I suggested when I first joined here.
Now I understand why we're saying no to them! ;)

  • Huh, OK. I understand completely. I had no idea that I would actually be suggesting something that is literally the opposite if Wintreath itself.

I think its safe to say this is DOA.  Thanks guys for educating me on this. No harm, no foul, WM :)
