  • Just a slight correction, though I do agree with you on the overall gender statement... The first example is all pronouns... Pronouns are words that do not define gender just imply  it... Why that person feels the need to aggregate such a truly random assortment of pronouns, I am not sure... But they're not saying in it that there are so and so many genders. Just that these are some of the common pronouns that this person has run into...

Yeah, I'm well aware. I should have been clearer, but I posted it to show an example of a social gender initiative I disagree with. I know these aren't creating new genders. Also, I think the person who wrote the text created them.

Anyone wants to be my Imzadi? Betazoids only please.

    Or my birlfriend, maybe?

As an amateur linguistics student, I disagree with "pre-planned" language modifications, especially for an ideological reason. I think it's better for everyone to let speakers of a language choose for themselves how it evolves, and separate language from ideology or politics. Eventually, if there is really a need to, terms like these will be naturally adopted by the speakers.

  • Eh, they're not made up by the writer. I've run into many of these... Honestly birlfriend is much better than trying to converse with someone who insists their pronouns are Qe/qer/qis. Ever tried to say Qe? It's a cringe inducing fictional noise.

That depends, what is "qe" in the way of phonology? Is it like a k but way further back in the mouth near the uvula + "ay" like "say"?

I've been training for years to be able to pronounce every possible phoneme the human language can produce. It's just one of my hobbies. I can do almost the whole table by now except clicks, so there is really no sound too foreign to me to pronounce.

Where does that come from anyway?

About the pronouns, perhaps the person just created a couple, but I've studied lots of gender language issues, and this is the first I hear of many of them.

Everyone seems pretty silly and smart in equal measure. Two qualities I appreciate and also possess.

  • I live with gender issues/interact with just a fuck load of people who it's necessary to know for. So I run into these a lot... And the Qe is pronounced a bit like the ch sound + ay. But the other things Qer and Qis for the most part follow the k sounds.
Also it comes from a communal made up agreement that that sounds like a good noise. Don't ask me why but it just fucking is. I wish it was less common I've run into it twice now.

I can be your fake Canadian boyfriend. Or birlfriend, if you're into this kind of thing.

    Favourite books? Movie? Band?

Books : my all time favourite book is Candide, ou l'optimisme by Voltaire. Random favourites are the Enderverse by Orson Scott Card, 1984 by George Orwell, The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, The Republic by Plato, and loads more.

Movies : My favourite TV shows are Monarchy and An Idiot Abroad. I only really watch movies when I'm stoned (it's easy, quick entertainment that doesn't take much concentration), so obviously The Big Lebowski.

Bands : my all time favourite is Nirvana. I like almost every grunge band like Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.
