  • Section I: Basic Information
    1) What is the name of your Wintreath nation?
    The Incorporated States of Valtaria.

    2) What is your World Assembly nation? If you don't have one or are WA mobile, state so.
    Same as above.

    3) Do you have nations in any other regions? If so, where?
    No.

    4) Do you serve in any official roles in any other regions or organizations? If so, what are they?
    No.

    5) Are you new to NationStates?
    Yes.

    6) What timezone are you in?
    EST -5, DST observant.

    7) How did you find out about Wintreath?
One of the numerous spam telegrams I received. I looked it over, the region seemed active but cozy, not too huge but not too small, so here I am.

    Section II: Interests
Based on your answers, we will help you get involved in any aspect of the region that you are interested in! Indicating interest here does not commit you to joining any aspect of the region. You will be asked to sign up for relevant areas once you are a Citizen to confirm you still want to join it.

    1) Would you like to serve in Wintreath's military, the Hvitt Riddaral?
    Undecided.

    2) Are you interested in joining the Civil Service?
Yes, as long as the people in charge make use of my strengths and interests as a person. I don't have much patience for things I am not interested in.

    3) Would you like to be part of roleplays on the forums?
Depending on which one exactly, sure. I am heavily roleplaying my nation and have already written a Constitution for it.

    4) Are you interested in joining a regional Minecraft server?
    No.

    5) What other interests do you have?
I am mostly interested in the inner workings of the region. I am a law student IRL (at the undergraduate level as law in my country is an undergrad), graduating this fall semester and going on to graduate studies in the winter. I am roleplaying my nation entirely under this perspective. My main area of interest IRL is labour law, but I'm very competent in constitutional law and fundamental human rights as well. I would like to draft laws and participate in the life of the region in a way that would fully use my abilities as a jurist. I am from a country with a civil law tradition so I can bring a special, Cartesian approach to law that differs from the approach people are used to in a common law system.

    Section II: Introductions and Questions
Please take a moment to introduce yourself to your future region-mates, or ask us any questions that you may have.

My name is Tony IRL. I'm 23 years old, and as I said above, I'm a law student. I live in Quebec, Canada. French is my mother tongue but I'm fluent in English. I'm also quite interested in linguistics, particularly the study of phonology. My future plans for my nation include drawing up a comprehensive map and inventing a language for it, as Tolkien and Okrand have done before me. I am using it as an intellectual exercise to hopefully write a legal thriller set in my fictitious nation with a fictitious law system, something I think would be immensely interesting to do and read. I'm an old-school gamer and I relish WRPGs like The Witcher or my recent acquisition Divinity : Original Sin, strategy games with a focus on resources like Tropico or the Anno series and grand strategy games like EU4. I am a socially classical liberal and I believe in letting people mostly choose for themselves what kind of life they want or which beliefs they will uphold for themselves, and the primacy of individual rights over collective interests. I support Keynesian economics and I am in favour of a strong State with an extensive social welfare net. I'm very distrustful of private interests in public policy, I do not even like the idea of campaign contributions by businesses at all and I believe government should only involve private citizens in their own standing. I also favour a very, very strict interpretation of the separation of Church and State and am unwilling to make any sort of exception to the law for religious interests : for example, I would tax churches and no need to say that the recent Burwell v. Hobby Lobby ruling had me very incensed, to say the least. This is due to my opinion that an interpretation of this doctrine that favours religious interests would mean putting religious law on top of human law, allowing it to dictate which manmade laws apply to religious people and organizations and which do not. This is an unacceptable situation for me, as I believe in law as a system that must always put an individual's liberty first, ahead of any belief to the contrary, because liberty allows everyone to act according to one's conscience, so it is the only logical solution. I do not even believe the Religious Right (or Left) should be allowed to be involved in politics as I view their overarching objective as dominionism and adopting a laissez-faire stance towards them would lead to burdening the human rights and freedoms of irreligious people (or those with a different religion). I try to be as green as possible but my circumstances right now make this difficult.

I'm looking forward to not only meaningfully contribute to the region but also hopefully make lasting Internet friendships, a thing from my younger days that I miss. I'm very good friends with a lot of people I've met online and these friendships are still going very strong after 10+ years. I hate discussing money or religion (unless it is about religion as it interacts with politics) but I'm open to pretty much any other subject. I am very tolerant of divergent or unusual lifestyles and circumstances and I do not like to label or judge, as labels never tell the whole story. I like to think that I'm a good person to confide in but I am bad at empathetic listening : my forte is offering good solutions to problems. I am a detached, logical person, and I love debating, in persona or otherwise. And as you've noticed, I love talking about myself, although I'm not an egocentric person and I can and do listen.

  • Welcome to the region! I don't think anyone has ever filled out the form so well. :P

I'm not as good at talking about myself, but my name is Jason in real life, and I'm your Monarch here in the region. :P If you're looking to make friends, you picked the right region since that's what we're about first and foremost...we're a social region of friends. Of course there's lots more to do, but that's our core, so to speak. I hope you stick around and get settled in...if any of us can help just let us know! :)
