What can I do this week?

    A Word from the Monarch

Thane of Werewolf Elections are Among Us

Wait! Among Us is under Gaming, not Werewolf!

This week, Wintreath was rocked by news that Jarl of Werewolf Ruguo had resigned their positions and intended on taking a break to focus on offline matters. As the community mourns the departure of a friend, we also have to consider who will carry their torch. Since Ruguo revolutionized our Werewolf games by adding chaotic mechanics, Werewolf has become the second most important part of Wintreath behind NationStates, making this a critical decision.

We decided to drop the Ministry of Werewolf and make the position a Thanedom of the Ministry of Culture. This paved the way for a special Thane election that has become one of the most competitive in Wintrean history: four candidates, each with heavy experience in both Werewolf and leadership roles, each with their own vision and ideas for tackling the issues our Werewolf scene faces.

    The Grapes of Success
Many of those issues stem from the scene's own successes. While chaotic mechanics proved to be popular, they also made Werewolf games more complex, which made it harder to learn the game. That popularity also made the games more active. A typical Werewolf game now logs hundreds of posts a day, which makes it hard for casual players to even keep track of. This makes us more reliant on players from other Werewolf communities who enjoy advanced games, which is not bad at all, but results in even more focus on advanced games.

    Certainly none of our candidates.
    Meet the Candidates
    • Arenado (North Gralend) is running a back to basics campaign, with an emphasis on doing the things we are already doing better. As examples, he pointed out that the upcoming hosts topic is outdated and that we rarely promote our games on the NationStates RMB. He also proposed a game complexity rating system, a mix of vanilla and chaotic games, and tutorial games with mentors to help new players learn the game.
    • Laurentus is running as a facilitator, leveraging his leadership experience and ties with other Werewolf communities to enhance our Werewolf scene. He has made building a leadership team a focus and proposed forming an informal council that would include all the candidates running in the election. He also wants to focus on building ties with other Werewolf communities and improving our own Werewolf technical system.
    • Neon Abigail is running an ideas campaign, including a Werewolf Academy with resources for new players, mentorship games with a mix of new players and experienced mentors to guide them, building a wealth of game types, creating a hosting index with ready-to go and developing games from hosts, and more community input on questions such as how many games we should host in a period of time.
    • Last but not least, Imaginative Kane (Command and Conquer Players) is running a campaign that's open to ideas, but also took some unique stands, such as developing Werewolf on the Discord and having volunteers promote our Werewolf games on the NationStates RMB. He also mentioned other ideas for games to host and cohost that has received positive feedback from others.

Who will be our Werewolf pack leader?
    Your Werewolf, Your Voice
While we have some amazing candidates, it's up to our Citizens to decide which one is best for the job. If you're a Citizen, take some time to read the campaigns and vote for the person you think should be our Thane of Werewolf. We'll announce results on June 16th, so get your votes in before then!

    Stay wolfy frosty,
    -Winter

    What's Happening Now
    News from Wintreath

    Ruguo/Silv Resigns and Departs
As mentioned in our leading article, Ruguo privately resigned and took a break from online commitments in order to focus on things offline. Silv was both our Jarl of Werewolf and Jarl of Foreign Affairs, served the community for nearly 2 years in many roles, and most importantly was a friend to many of us in the region. Check out the topic for more information, and feel free to leave your own message.

    Thane Elections Conclude
As we were preparing for the Werewolf Thane special election, the regular election was just ending. Ultimately the incumbents (Marzipan for Thane of Gaming, TGN for Thane of Embassies, and Michi for Thane of World Assembly Affairs) defeated their challengers. Along with Svipjoth (Thane of Roleplay/Regional Affairs) and The Ursian Empire (Thane of Foreign Releases) who won their positions by default, they make up the Thanes of the Summer Cabinet. Congratulations to them!
