  • It wouldn't make it impossible, but it would make it much more irritating and time-consuming to back up the RMB. That's pretty much typical raider behaviour though, there's nothing special about what TBR do except that they have a larger and more active force than most other raiders.

  • Apologies, I should have clarified that it is impossible when the natives have been banjected.

Although typical of raiders, I still can't in good conscience support their commendation if they suppress posts and give no time to back up. Tag-raiding, while irritating, is a bit more forgivable.

  • Don't you think that's a fairly arbitrary line to draw, given the other accomplishments for which the author is seeking to recognize the group ?

  • Perhaps. But considering the history that can be lost when a refounding takes place, with no time being given to back it up, and the suppression of posts that make it difficult, it simply isn't something that I can look past, even when faced with solid evidence of their other achievements.

I can understand why others won't share my view, but this is something that I can't really explain. It just feels wrong.

  • Outside of what I've already stated, I don't see what is really commendable here, especially when they have already been recognized by the SC. They were (when the proposal was made before they lost their region) essentially wanting a commendation and condemnation for the same things.

    Quote
    The World Assembly,

Hoping to preserve a record of what The Black Riders have accomplished throughout its history,
Had The Black Riders not engaged in malicious cheating, they would still have their region, would in my opinion is a much better venue for preserving history than a World Assembly resolution.

Noting that The Black Riders have received a Security Council Condemnation, and accepting its effects,
So they've already been recognized by the World Assembly...why do they need to be recognized again?

Arguing that the actions of a region are not black and white, and that a region can make actions worthy of condemnation and commendation at the same time,
Why? They're both forms of recognition, and it's no secret that most raiders accept condemnations of trophy badges regardless, so it's kind of like saying someone should be recognized twice for the same things.

Recognizing The Black Riders as one of the most well known military institutions in the world,
Of which it joins a number of other military institutions spanning all alignments.

Noting The Black Riders’s policy of unbiased participation, allowing nations of almost any ideology or religion to participate in regional affairs, as long as they are respectful to others,
I'm not really sure what this means...as far as I'm aware TBR's don't have much of a regional culture or internal scene, and some seem to even believe it's best that they don't have a home region at all. What regional affairs?

Lauding The Black Riders’s endorsement of democracy when electing World Assembly Delegates,
Raids against long-term native communities which then become occupations when they use the power of the delegate to suppress dissent or opposition is not somehow a democratic practice. This language is simply meant to sound good to WA members who are not involved in gameplay and don't know any better. "Oh, democracy! They must be fantastic!"

Applauding The Black Riders’s participation in the liberation of Nazi Europe from Fascist forces,
Which in actuality changed absolutely nothing, because the Nazi Europe community then simply moved to a new, foundered, invulnerable region. It's even been suggested that these raids have lit a fire under Nazis and spurred them to become even more active and organized. If the implication is that TBR's helped weaken Nazis, it's possible that may not actually be the case.

Observing their efforts to refound founderless regions, such as DEN, Islamic Revolution of Iran, Angola, Internet, Charon, Whitereach, K and J Alliance, The Silver Isles, Region of Reunited Muslim States, Ixnay, and many others,
Many of these refounds having been done against the will of the natives...particularly Ixnay, in which TBR destroyed an 11-year-old roleplaying region...which would lead to other operations to target roleplay regions for the express purpose of upsetting roleplayers that have and want nothing to do with gameplay.

Attesting to The Black Riders’s contribution to other large founderless regions by bringing them into international relevance through occupations that do not end in refoundings, for instance in the regions SPACE, Anarchy and The Mountains to the East,
It's not that TBR's mercifully decided not to refound these regions as some sort of charity, it's that many of these regions are literally so large and have accumulated so much influence that TBR would have had to hold them for years before being able to banject the entire populace and refound them.

Acknowledging the large amount of time and effort that must be put into tagging, occupations, and refounds,
As I understand it, that's all part of the fun...everything requires time and effort, so maybe we should commend everyone while we're at it. :P

Appalled that The Black Riders’s region is constantly bombarded by insults and slander,
You mean people don't like a group that goes around disrupting regions, banjecting people from their homes while all the while gloating about it? Or that intentionally targets non-gameplay regions to get a rise from the people in them for drama? Shocking. Obviously they have a game-given right to do what they do, but let's drop the faux-shock and outrage. It's used way too much in NSGP. They know what they're doing, and in some cases they encourage the response they get.

Impressed by the fact that, despite the previously mentioned insults, The Black Riders has instituted a strict policy of not seeking revenge, and that the residents of The Black Riders always provide polite, if blunt, responses,
Except the revenge of threatening to sic a delete-on-site player on fellow raiders for not doing as TBR wanted, apparently.

Asserting that The Black Riders unite nations and regions of all kinds through the actions that they take,
Wouldn't agree with this at all. In fact I'd be curious to know how many nations TBR have driven out of NS entirely. Again, this isn't a moralist response, I would just wager that they've done as much harm as they have good through their actions.

Citing the clear increase in activity in regions that have been tagged by The Black Riders, and the many friendships formed through discussion of them,
If you look at the thousands of tags done by TBR, I would say this is not the case on average...the vast majority of their ops are against dead regions, and those regions continue to remain dead. Perhaps this is true in some cases, but overall it's an exaggeration at best.

Interjecting that Defender regions have been commended for their organization and success, despite that fact that The Black Riders has just as much, if not more, organization and success than them,
The only defender regions I know of that are being commended are 10000 Islands and Renegade Islands Alliance, and both commendations included a variety of points and reasons outside of their military contributions. On the other hand, we're being asked to commend TBR exclusively for its military accomplishments, when it already has been recognized by the Security Council to boot.

Realizing that this very council has commended self proclaimed “Defenders” for actions that would not have been possible without the existence of The Black Riders,
"Without evil there'd be no good so it must be good to be evil sometimes!" I loved the South Park movie. :P

Stressing the fact that a large of number of resolutions passed by this Security Council, which acts as a symbol of international peace and diplomacy, would not exist without the extensive efforts of The Black Riders,
And a large number of maritime safety treaties would not exist if it weren't for the iceberg that sank the Titanic. I don't think anyone ever moved to thank the iceberg for its actions in spurring maritime safety regulations. :P

Pointing out that many Defender regions have been commended for their actions, yet they have failed to stop, or even significantly slow down The Black Riders, showing this council’s corrupt bias against institutions like The Black Riders,
Again, I don't believe many defender regions are being commended, and those that have them have been recognized  for their internal and historic accomplishments as much if not more than their military accomplishments. This focus on defender "inequality" in SC resolutions is misleading, in my opinion.

Accepting that The Black Riders have instilled a greater interest in regional defense, regional politics and international diplomacy throughout the world,
    We need more icebergs. *nods*

    Hereby Commends The Black Riders.

  • Not that I enjoy playing Devil's Advocate, but I'm afraid there's a few glaring flaws in your post, @Wintermoot.

Oh, wait.  That's just a fly on the screen.

    Carry on.
