I'm sorry to have to inform the community that Gerrick is stepping down as Jarl of Culture after nearly three years of service.

From the time he was appointed as Jarl in November 2016, he quickly proved himself a reliable workhorse who was involved in nurturing every aspect of our region's growing culture, from developing the initial Arena game to putting in a huge chunk of work on our yearly Summersend festivals to helping others build and host numerous games. He's even consistently put out the monthly Wintreath's Finest and Avatar of the Month contest threads for years now, which is no small feat as anyone who's had a regular responsibility can confirm. But beyond that, he has always been a wise and trusted adviser to me and the Cabinet, where his dedication to the region and it's culture always showed.

It goes without saying that he has had a huge impact over the course of years of dedicated service to our region and community, and for that reason I have seen fit to name Gerrick as a Duke of Wintreath, in addition to his current title as Count of Janth, in appreciation of all he has done in that time. He has told me that he will remain active in the community as a Citizen, which I am very thankful for...but in the meantime, please join me in thanking him for his service as Jarl of Culture!

Thanks for all that you've done, Gerrick! I can honestly say that over the last three years you've made the region better. You've made it more fun. You've made it more enjoyable. The place wouldn't be the same if you hadn't. ^_^

Gerrick has truly been an inspiration to all of us. I got here in November of last year and was immediately impressed by how he was everywhere, all the time. Gerrick has been so incredibly talented and put so much time into the community as a whole. Thank you, Gerrick. You deserve this dukeship more than anyone I know.

Thank you for all of your hard work over the years, Gerrick. Though I've only been here for a few months, the dedication and time you've poured into this community is undeniable!

Thank you, Gerrick, for everything you've done for the community.
You were an inspirational figure in my early days, a role model when I first stumbled my way into the UH, a great boss when I entered government, and a fine example after I somehow bumbled my way into a Jarldom of my own.
You're leaving some pretty cavernous shoes to fill, but just as I had confidence in your leadership, I have faith in your judgement of character, and am certain that Ruguo is going to do a fine job taking over.

Thank you for the service Gerrick!  In the approximately a year and a half that I have been here you and Pengu were probably some of my biggest inspirations when I have been coming up with ideas for and games here on the forums.  Hopefully this doesn't mean you are withdrawing from the community since plans...

Ruguo is definitely going to have some big shoes to fill but you seem like you will be able to fill them.

Thank you Gerrick for your dedicated service to Wintreath, and for helping me when I was just starting my first term as Thane of Roleplay. Without your valuable assistance, I would've been lost in a sea of duties that I couldn't even begin to know how to carry out! You have been an amazing influence on the community, and your positive impact is impossible to deny.

Damn, Gerrick, I will miss you in the cabinet if I ever pursue another position there, and from what I've seen of Silver, I think you made an excellent choice.

Thank you for the kinds words, everyone! And wow, a dukeship? Thank you, Wintermoot -- it means a lot that you place such high value on the work we've been able to accomplish.

It was great to serve as your Jarl of Culture for so long and to work with all my Thanes, fellow Cabinet members, and game hosts and players over the years, but it's about time for some new blood in the position. And as Wintermoot said, I'm just stepping down, not leaving the community or anything. Who knows, maybe I'll get more involved elsewhere in the future.

And good luck to Ruguo! I know you'll do a great job.
