So I'm hearing RP revitalization's a hot issue, so let me throw an idea.

What if we RP'd US politics in the near future (say, 2030s)? All of the players will be US senators and will be trying to push for their ideology and their personal power throughout the game as crises envelop (maybe a civil war?). I'll be the GM and RPing the executive branch throughout it

That sounds great  ! The only problem is that the republicans would side with themselves and ditto with the democrats. It would then be who has the bigger party. I would use British politics as there are many sides leading to unlikely sides when there is no outright winner.

You know how up until the 1980s, both parties were basically big tent parties where there was politicians across the political spectrum in both parties? That'll sorta be the case in the timeline of this RP. Both parties are ideologically fractured and there are multiple internal factions competing for power. The difference between the era in this RP and the pre-1980s era is that many of these factions are not trying to take over their respective parties. The Libertarian faction of the GOP and the Socialist faction of the DNC want to destroy their parties and bring about a multiparty parliamentary system. Others, such as the conservative "Business Minded Liberal" faction of the DNC and the liberal Christian Democrat faction of the GOP want to reform their respective parties.

All of these factions agree on some issues and disagree on others, and will sometimes form cross-party alliances to take down other cross-party alliances, or a particular party initiative. For instance, the DNC Socialists and the GOP Libertarians will typically unite to obstruct GOP anti-LGBT initiatives and DNC foreign policy initiatives.

Then finally, there are the revolutionary factions, who will play a major role in the RP. They are the Paleoconservative and Identitarian factions of the GOP, and the Meritocrat and the Silicon Valley factions of the DNC. All of them are very militant and have a lot of potential for violence. And they might start shit in the RP.

I think I follow, but I am British and am lost on half the things you said which was that there are different factions inside and across the parties? Anyway, great idea and would love to join.

Both parties are divided by internal factions. And these internal factions sometimes collaborate with internal factions from another party when they have mutual interests within Congress. A British example I guess would be many of the old guard New Labour politicians openly collaborating with the Tories to undermine Corbyn's faction within the Labour Party out of their mutual interest in preserving Capitalism.

Some sort of civil war, probably. I don't plan to getting into details until there is definite interest here though

I've developed a plotline for this RP now, but I want to see if there's actual serious interest in getting this off the ground before going into greater detail
