  • I more of the idea, on be in touch with them, but open nothing for a long period of time! We simply can not trust them, who can assure us that, it won't happen the same thing to us also!? I don't trust them. Plus we have an unstable Goverment here with an unstable region which was invaded by Osiris! We need definetely, more information about them and their plans about us. As we have to make ourselves available for every citizen of their region. My answer is negative, we can be in touch with them, but have cold relationships...
I disagree, Osiris is well Osiris, Cormac is out of the region, and I"m not sure about the others(I don't keep up with Osiris information), however Osiris is somewhat unstable as it has no founder. However we have an active founder, and we also have a treaty with Lazurus that will protect us. I think we should look into opening some form of relations with them as they might prove to be a good ally later, however we should not sign a treaty or anything with them until later.

By that logic neither are all GCR's.

They're not unstable if they have a delegate such as Escade, Kazmr, Raven, etc. A regions stability is based on

A)Citizen's opinion of the head of the region
B)Competency of said head of the region

  • I don't think you could say any GCR is completely stable...except for perhaps The Pacific.

Lazarus - Recent attempted coup by Griffin Somerset
The South Pacific - Claims of Escade being an Empire plant, recent administration conflicts, Article 9 debate
Osiris - Anemic delegate endorsement rate, semi-permanent need for foreign support, persecution and exodus of defenders

In any case, a follow up question to those that named Spiritus as our most valuable diplomatic partner...how do you juxtapose that opinion with the fact that Wintreath broke away from Spiritus, and has many Citizens who decided to leave that region?

  • @Mootles; what's the point in worthless hostility? As a defender region I don't think we should have bad relations with any region, but least of all the origin region. I'm aware of the circumstances that led to many of our members leaving Spiritus, but I really think that having diplomatic relations is better than being in the dark with a possibly aggressive region that wants, I don't know, revenge or honour or something or other. Stranger things have happened, right?

A lot of people didn't like how the whole you VS Sal thing went down, others it's FA policies, how it's members act, etc. It's how Spiritus acts, I guess, that pushes some away.

  • Well perhaps indeed many of our members where ex-spiritus citizens, but we formed our own consitution, thus we are an indipended region. As I sayed, even if we don't keep any kind of diplomatic solutions with them, we still can learn whats going on there...But the best sollution will be to have diplomatic treaties with spiritus, they are nice folks. Now as it has to do with us being a defender region, i don't believe that it is necessary to have relationships with every region #Weissreich :)
I believe that we should some sort of a communication code with them, but not necessary relationships :)

  • I would like to state why I didn't choose Spiritus for forming a treaty with, they seem to unstable at this moment, also we have a lot of citizens here who left Spiritus and came here, and for the time being Spiritus does not seem like a partner we should be forming an alliance with beyond having an embassy at this time. Now in the future, I can not say, however Spiritus has a bit of problems and does not seem ready for an alliance at this time. However I might be wrong as I do not really keep myself up to date with Spiritus happenings and Spritius politics.

Reputation is irrelevant, and should always be when forming alliances/embassies. Mind you, if there's rumor's of more backstabbing then a game of Diplomacy, we might want to ask why. But if we have members that share similar goals here, or like each other a lot, that's when embassies/alliances should be formed. Sure, if you want a lot of political love for going with the easy choice of going for a region that's our beliefs, sure go for that. I'd like to think, however, we'd go for a region that actually, you know, benefits us. Regions like Osiris, Balder, TSP, Lazarus, Spiritus, etc. have experienced members, and share some similar goals/ government similarities, etc. with Wintreath, despite some R/D differences.

    wat.
Yes, because a censure of a member is a sign of instability *nods*.
As a member of the Spiritus government, and a "long" time member of the community, were not unstable.

  • Spiritus would provide us with some experienced members. Although I did state that Spiritus could be a good partner of ours I don't believe now might be the best time to make alliance with them; maybe in a month or so. I feel that before we become an alliance through treaty, we should at least see if we might be able to work together and possibly host some sort of a cultural festival with Spiritus, although that would fall in a separate department, I believe.

    1) Other than Lazarus, our only current treaty partner, what region or group do you believe is our most valuable diplomatic partner and why?
I believe we need to keep close ties with all our allies. However, if push comes to shove we should stick with the larger and more established regions. Spiritus, TNP, ones like those.

    2) Recently, The South Pacific announced that they would no longer utilize their embassies in other regions, instead posting news and information only on their own forum and NationStates Gameplay, as posted here. What are your thoughts on the importance or unimportance of forum embassies? Additionally to Jarl of Foreign Affairs candidates, what are some ideas you have to make embassies with our region more valuable, if you have any plans at all?
Forum embassies are more specific, closer nit, and a better source of information. It also allows someone without access to the forum(s) the ability to keep track of a regions stability.

    3) What specific things would you change about the way Wintreath conducts foreign affairs if you could?
If we could have some people work on formatting the orendi's for different boards, that would be great.
    4) Perhaps the most relevant foreign affairs issue which Wintreath has taken a stance on is the December 2013 coup of Osiris and the subsequent rise of the "Osiris Fraternal Order", our reaction to which is noted in Royal Decree 002. Noting the embassy request recently received from that region, what are your thoughts on the current state of non-affairs between Wintreath and the "Osiris Fraternal Order"?
Royal decree 002 would have to be nullified. And wintreaths status as a defender region could be called into question. I suggest we see the citizens opinions on the OFO and make our judgement form there.

    5) Obviously, both the Jarl of Foreign affairs and the Underhusen have considerable input on the treaties with Wintreath enters into. What are some factors that would cause you to absolutely come out against any particular treaty?
I could not accept a treaty with the leaders of a rebellion/coup not fully supported by the citizens of a region.

I have to disagree here. Just because we recognize and have emassies with a non-defender region doesn't make us Non-defender. It just shows that we don't care about the alignment of a region if we see it to be a valuable region to have relations with.

  • It's strange how the FA section is currently debating about Spiritus, personaly i don't really care for Spiritus...They are only a region...we have more importand issues to talk about...Our FA system shouldn't just be active on subjects of making allies etc.. I mean if we hardly can maintain our own Embassies, and place inactive ambassadors all over our Embassies, I think thats a more importand issue!

How can we keep talking about the same thing over and over again, while we are just talking about the same stuff with the different words?! Get over Spiritus, they are ideal to have diplomatic relationships with, and thats the end of it! Move on..
As Foreign Affairs, it's better for our region to work all together, and put some ideas on the table, rather than biting each others ass...jeez!

Neither I win or lose the elections, I will keep saying that in order to make things right, we need to be correct for ourselves.
Foreign's Affair Ministry should be an ideal place, to inform, to create and to sign up treatys with regions that interest us the most! I am not saying that we shouldn't keep our eye on every region from which we can have valuable help, even in the future, but it is necessary to form treatys at the present time with regions that interest us the most.

I am not really sure if it right or wrong, to have as candidates people that already work for another region?! (perhaps someone can enlight me?)

Wintermoot, firstly, I'd like to thank you to hosting this debate.  I will gladly answer these first set of questions before proceeding further.

    1. I believe we should seek ties with The East Pacific as well as Spiritus.  While Spiritus has some common things with us, we can learn from each other and should repair our ties in that we have similar beliefs about certain things, even if we disagreed on other matters.  With The East Pacific, we have a strong feeder region that is known for it's open-mindedness, active participants, strong RP, and now recently an independent defender army.  With all these things, Wintreath would stand to gain from having TEP as a good diplomatic partner and ally.

    2. I believe forum embassies are important.  It's a shame The South Pacific had to resort to such drastic measures because they didn't want to do all the work updating their embassies.  Much of the Gameplay area are full of trolls and people who will blow things up out of proportion - in short, drama-mongers.  In forum embassies, regions actually use the ambassadors to take the time to update the regions we have diplomatic ties with as to what's going on, and our ambassadors should also be there to relay any concerns or questions those regions may have, including requests for diplomatic talks about something.   Having forum embassies is a good tool to have, and yes it does require an active diplomatic corps.  I feel that TSP should have worked to ensure they had an active diplomatic corps rather than shutting it down entirely.  Not everyone wants to read the NS forums - especially the Gameplay area, and I think having our ambassadors open up a office / question thread in our embassies also helps to show we care about the regions we have ties with, and want to make sure our ambassador is available to them.

    3. I would encourage our ambassadors to do a monthly  or some occasional question thread, where any concerns or questions other regions may have, can be answered in our embassy, where we get to know our regions we have ties with, and they get to know us better :)

    4. I oppose any embassy request with Osiris under the "OFO" and I support Royal Decree 2.  Given recent events, they have not made their case as to why we should have diplomatic ties with them or recognise their region.  They still seem to have an attitude of scapegoating defenders, as what was done recently with Cameron Romefeller.  I would deny their request.

    5. I would come out against any treaty where it puts us in an entangling alliance that does not benefit Wintreath, and only makes Wintreath look bad by getting involved in some form of inter-regional drama.  We are a vibrant region and we should only engage in treaty discussions with regions that will benefit us in a positive manner, or something mutually beneficially.
