What can I do this week?

    A Word from the Monarch
Make Clicks Not Nukes in Wintreath

There was an entire movie in 1983 about N-Day

While most NationStates regions were preparing for the N-Day minigame, Wintreath took a different route. We have many members and Citizens who have left the NationStates side of Wintreath but are still a part of our community, and the event wouldn't offer anything for them. It's also become more difficult to find people interested in N-Day, as it largely favors massive alliances made up of regions who are very active in NationStates Gameplay (NSGP).

So we offered one of our own games, Clickwar, as a N-Day alternative with spectacular results. Ultimately, 19 players joined the game and 13 of them owned territory on the map by the end of the game, demonstrating the growing chaos that ensued as more players joined. This is by far the most players any Clickwar game has hosted!

    What is Clickwar?
Clickwar is Wintreath's multiplayer clicker game, where players get the most points on tiles to own them. From there they can name tiles to whatever they want and advance on adjacent tiles owned by other players. After a player has owned a tile for 12 hours, they begin to gain legacy every hour on it, which is one of the leaderboards that players can top to win the game, with the other being who owns the most tiles at the end.

    Game Summary
The game started off slowly on the first day, with the entire map being largely settled by Stigya to the east and Shroux to the west, with henj and I also having smaller areas of the map. Things picked up from here with five players contesting the north east corner of the map throughout the day and borders changing wildly. After being entirely wiped out at one point, I would regain control of most of that corner and then some, with Weissreich and Crushita settling into some portions and Stigya and Shroux being pushed back to where they started.

Day three saw Shroux's vast empire crumble after he decided he had "left his mark" on the game and stopped playing, with new small areas controlled by Nova! and BraveSirRobin setting up in the north, Ruguo setting up in the south, and me carving a path through the middle. Michi set up shop on a single tile, Dollys Cardigans, that he would have for the rest of the game. The final day was the most contentious for Stigya, as Ruguo's territory exploded largely at his expense, while Kiddian also carved a path on the other side of his lands. Most of the rest of the map was stable, making this the exact opposite of the rest of the game.

At the end of the game, Ruguo had won the most tiles owned leaderboard, while Stigya won the legacy leaderboard, making them the game's 2 winners! Congratulations to both of them!

    New Developments
Clickwar saw action on the development end too, with new features and mechanics being introduced during this game:
    • Game Start and End Timers: Hosts can now set games to start and end at specific times in the future, meaning they can set games up ahead of time. If the game hasn't started yet, a timer will show how much time remains before the game opens.
    • Variance: In previous games, players could attack a tile every 30 seconds, but now that time is picked at random between values set by the host. For this game it was between 15 and 50 seconds. This game also introduced a penalty for premature attacks.
    • La Resistance: When a player's capitol is controlled by another player, their attacks on that tile will give double points. Players must control their capitol tile before attacking any others, so this is meant to nerf strategies that revolve around putting huge amounts of points on competitors' capitols to intimidate them out of the game.
This was by far the best game of Clickwar yet and eclipsed most of my experiences with N-Day, so it's safe to call the game a success! Clickwar is an exciting part of Wintreath's future, and as we continue developing and running the game, I'm sure it will become even bigger and better!

    What's Happening Now
    News from Wintreath
    Signups for Werewolf 30 Open!
Named "Your Worst Nightmare" (and what better thame for coming into October?) and hosted by Ruguo, this game promises "simple roles, simple rules, and unbelievably stupid and intentionally frustrating mechanics in the most 'make fun of all the bad times' ways". This should especially be great for roleplayers, as it will require all players to play a role, but should still be a great game for new and old players alike. If you'd like to join up, check out the link for more information!

    Michi Paragon Act Passes!
On September 18th, Michi (Penguin Dictators) became Wintreath's 6th Paragon, one of the highest honours that can be given in Wintreath. Paragons are people who are recognized for long-running and exceptional contributions to Wintreath, in Michi's case for everything from his continuous service in multiple roles over nearly a decade to introducing Werewolf and Spyfall to Wintreath to the many reviews and publications he has put together over the years. Congratulations to Michi for this well-deserved honour!

    Michi Retires from NationStates, Government
As the Michi Paragon Act worked through the Landsraad, Michi announced his retirement from NationStates and the government, explaining that after 18 years involved in NationStates he felt it was time to "give a chance for new folks to jump in with fresh ideas and mindsets". This made his Paragonhood especially timely, and while he will no longer be a leader in our community, we are glad that he'll still be here as a vibrant part of it. Best of luck to Michi on his future endeavors in and out of Wintreath!

    Marzipan Becomes Jarl of Culture!
Michi's retirement left a vacancy for Jarl of Culture, a position that only 3 people had held over the last 7 years. It was no surprise that Marzipan (New Montith) was appointed, given their many contributions and accomplishments in turning Wintreath into a proper gaming community since their return to Wintreath in March, including establishing the Dungeon Masters to host games and working with hosts to get many different games off the ground. Congratulations to them on ascending to Jarldom!

    Arenado Named Thane of Gaming!
Marzipan's promotion in turn left the Thane of Gaming position open, and they quickly named Arenado (North Gralend) to it. Arenado was the Thane of Werewolf during the last Cabinet term, and had just been named an Alder (see below) before this appointment. However, their role in organizing Werewolf and hosting games makes them a great choice for this position. Congratulations to them, and welcome back to the Cabinet!

    Arenado Named Vice-Chancellor
Arenado was also named Vice-Chancellor of the Landsraad (our legislature) as Chancellor Svipjoth set up her office. Arenado was runner-up in the election and has a vast wealth of experience serving in legislatures, making him a particularly logical choice. Congratulations to Arenado on becoming Vice-Chancellor, too!

    Autumn Alders Announced!
Alders are advisory Cabinet members, selected based on their contributions and accomplishments over the last season. This season's Alders include trader for his work as Senior Discord Op and host of the Minecraft server, Chanku (Terra cinis tonitrua et justitia) for her development of the Discord Assassins game, and Arenado (North Gralend for his work as outgoing Thane of Werewolf (before being appointed as Thane of Gaming). Please join me in congratulating them!

The Forums Get a Long-Needed Reorg
Over the weekend, the forums were reorganized for the first time in years, with an emphasis on clearing away inactive forums and making them easier for newbies to understand. The newbie area was radically changed, with the main forum focused on introductions and AMAs, Citizenship apps going to a subforum, and a new subforum for newbie guides opened. Read more about the forum makeover at the link!

    The Election Harmonization Act Passes!
This Act is meant to set future Landsraad Chancellor elections to coinicide with Cabinet Thane elections, where before they were supposed to happen three months after the current Chancellor was elected. It does this by slightly extending the Svipjoth's term as the current Chancellor.
