The winner of the Colorado State Fair's fine art competition was AI-generated, and it goes without saying that it's pretty controversial. Critics say that the "artist" didn't do any actual artistic work, and that the entry suggests a future where artists can be replaced by machines. The "artist" claims that it's a legitimate art form, and that he spent a lot of time going through hundreds of prompts, narrowing it down to three favorites, and using Photoshop to make edits before printing it to a canvas. He also states that he didn't lie about the source when submitting the entry, and it was obviously accepted.

What say you? Is AI-generated art an exciting new field, or is it cheating human artists and threatening their livelihoods?

imo I don't think it should have been admitted to the competition in the first place, maybe it can have it's own robo league like how speedrunners have TAS runs

AI artists are not bad though, they will extremely helpful for poor game developers who need concept art for something. It doesn't have the precision of a human as well, since you just type words and it gives you that, with a human you can ask for very precise and certain features like a extra stick on a tree. I don't think AI artists will overtake human art, but they will benefit companies who have a low budget.
