  • Hello, everyone, this is a guide on how to use the new Werewolf system for hosts. I hope this will be helpful for prospective hosts moving forward. Without further ado, let's begin.

    Step 1: Create Thread
    Step 1

Step 1 is simple, create a topic in The Lost Village area of the forum. Werewolf games can only be hosted using this system in that specific area so be sure to create your thread there. Also note that this system will not work in the Werewolf Discussion area either. Once your thread is created, a good piece of advice is to lock the thread while you set things up. Once that is done, on to Step 2.

    Step 2: Add Werewolf Game
    Step 2.1

Once your thread is created, it should look something like this. Now, the next step is to add the Werewolf game. On the top left hand side of the original post should be a drop down menu called 'More'. Refer to the picture above for exact location.

    Step 2.2

Next, click on the drop down tab. It should look like the picture above. Click on 'Add Werewolf' to activate the host system. With that done, on to Step 3.

    Step 3: Add Players
    Step 3.1

The next step will be adding players. Your thread should look like the picture above. On the bar above your original post should be a row of 4 links named "Host Options", "Players", "Votes", and "Posts". Click the tab named "Players" as shown above.

    Step 3.2

Next, there should be a small button on the top right hand side named 'Add Players' as shown above. Click the button. There should be a prompt to add the names of players. You will need to add each player in, one at a time, manually. Be sure to type their full forum name to add them.

    Step 3.3

Next, you will need to click the button on the left hand side named 'Host Options'.

    Step 3.4

It should take you to a menu that looks like the picture above. You will need to ensure that 'Enable Self-Join' is not selected. Then you will need to put the number of players into the 'Maximum Number of Players' bar. This is to ensure that only the players who joined the game from signups will be able to play. It is possible to allow players to self join, but for new hosts, it is recommended to do so manually while you get used to the hosting system. Also note that you do not need to add the players as vote options as the system will add players as vote options automatically. You will only need to add vote options for non-player vote options, such as actions. With that done, you should be ready to start the game.

    Step 4: Start Game
    Step 4

Now, you need to start the game. On the bottom right, there should be a button named 'Start Game' as shown above. This will start the game. If you had locked the thread while you were setting up the thread you will need to unlock the thread. Ping the players and let the game begin!

Now, I will show you how to operate the system while the game is ongoing by using the Vote, Phase, Posts and Player systems.

    Phases
    Phases

To advance the day or night phase, there should be a button on the bottom left of every post that says '+Phase'. This will advance the day or night phase to the next phase from the post you pressed the button on. Keep in mind that it is very important to advance the phase only on the final post of that phase. A good piece of advice is to make your post announcing the advancement of the day or night phase and then advance the phase using that post. The reason for you to be mindful of the phases is that the system counts both Votes and Posts by the phase, so it is important that you advance the phase correctly.

    Posts and Post Counts
    Posts

Under the 'Posts' tab on the top post is the player post counter. It will allow you to count the number of posts per phase if you have implemented a post limit or minimum. This is partly why accurately advancing the phases are important.

    Votes
    Votes

Under the 'Votes' tab on the top post is the vote counter. The system will not automatically implement the results of the vote, only count them. This is the another reason why it is important to accurately advance the phases. Any vote effects or powers will need to be manually taken into account. Also keep in mind that some players may not have submitted a vote using the system. If you wish to count these votes, you will need to find and count them manually. Once you have counted the votes, the next step is Player Management.

    Player Management
    Players

Finally, to kill players during a day or night phase, go to the 'Player' tab on the top post. The names of all players should be present with a skull and crossbones symbol next to all living players. Clicking the symbol will kill that player in that phase. This is another reason to accurately advance the phases. Once the player is killed, it should look like the picture below.

    Players

In the event that you accidentally kill a player when you did not mean to, inform either the Thane or the forum administrator, Wintermoot, and they will try to resolve this for you as soon as you can.

    Ending the Game

Finally, once the game is over, next to the '+Phase' button is another button named 'End Game'. This will end the game.

I hope this guide was helpful and that you have a fun time hosting your Werewolf game! Thank you, and I hope you have a pleasant day!
