California wants to get rid of history as a required high school course.  It's really sad

I had had American history from colonial times to 1900 three separate years before I had anything else. Junior year we had modern American history, and senior year we had world history, of which Europe maybe counted for a month or so of. In fairness, I did have a year of geography in 6th grade, but it didn't cover history...just where things are.

I still remember in that class I had to make a hand-drawn map of South America by hand...quite a tedious task when you're using colored pencils.

History is going to be even less emphasized in America going forward, thanks to Common Core and No Child Left Behind.

NCLB was an attempt to level the playing field but it got fucked up and didn't properly account for special needs kids.

No Child Left Behind was at best a very poor idea...it essentially legislated a requirement that all students be above average. Yeah, it didn't consider special needs kids, but you're not going to get any large group to fit that criteria completely...that just runs counter to the basic principles of statistics. Unfortunately, NCLB has now left states beholden to the federal government, which wants certain things implemented, so that it will grant states exemptions to the Act and not inform every parent in the system that their schools are failing. See the case with Washington state. Now their schools will have to reserve 20% of their budget to pay for 'private solutions' for their students...a handout for private schools and services on top of everything else.

An exchange I had with a new nation. Curiously, when I came back from working out an hour later the nation had been deleted with the status "Disgraced: This name was soiled by a former nation." Basically, mod deleted.

Personalized messages are WAY more effective in getting GOOD players who will stay longer, than this copy-paste shit.

Thank you for your input. However, I believe your advice is outdated.

With the introduction of automatic recruitment through the API and stamps, we're one of the few regions that even continues to manually recruit, even if it is 'copy-paste shit'. You would be hard-pressed to find many regions that haven't completely automated their recruitment. While personalized messages might have been good five years ago, they would be lost today in a sea of telegrams from other regions.

But personalized messages, will get BETTER players, who will be more involved. You have to decide, if you just want to get members, who will eventually leave and not cotnribute, or if you want GOOD members, by convincing them to join your alliance with personalized messages.

Sure, personalized messages for every person that comes in would be grand, and attract some pretty great people.

But let's be honest, that's a LOT of time to devote to personalizing a message for EVERY person you recruit, let alone for the ones that will even bother reading it.

Not to mention the ones that won't even receive it. I've recruited to about 2000 nations in the past week alone...it's kinda hard to personalize like that.

I'm not sure if he was recruited via the API or if I recruited to him and didn't see the name, but I try to skip over nations that are likely to be deleted or are affiliated with Nazis.
